MIDDLEBURY, Ind. – Grand Design Recreational Vehicles hosted its second annual ‘Christmas in July’ event as a toy drive for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program. The goal of the event was to fill the Momentum toy hauler on-site with donations and it was a huge success. In total, the event filled 29 Toys for Tots boxes and received 8 bikes. They also have $500 to purchase additional items.

The toy drive was held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. EST on July 22 at Grand Design RV’s customer service and support center, located at 5200 Hoffman St., in Elkhart, Ind. Food trucks were on-site along with a Momentum unit from Grand Design RV and a Dutch Star unit patrons were able to tour from Winnebago sister company Newmar Corporation.

Grand Design created a Christmas in July Amazon Buyers Guide and saw everything on the list sell out due to online donations from local community members and RV owners from around the country. Grand Design then created a second Amazon list of items to meet the demand from the community that is still active. All the toys donated will directly benefit children in Elkhart County and the surrounding area.

“We have had great success and we have a wonderful partnership with the Marine Corps of Elkhart area, and we want to be able to do anything we can to help provide more to the community with this Toys for Tots program,” according to Emily Stahley, Grand Design’s director of community and owner outreach. “Doing something in July allows us to give them a little bit of a boost for their December drive. It gets them started so they know exactly what they’re looking for, come December.

“We’ve had a successful event with the community and we’ve had more community members come out this week or this time, than we did last year,” she added. “We also had Newmar come in and they brought a whole mess of toys. They went shopping with the over $5,000 worth of money that they were able to raise over two days, as well. We are so thankful for Chelsea and her crew over at Newmar.”

Since 1947, the Toys for Tots program has assisted over 272 million children. The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is a not-for-profit organization authorized by the U.S. Marine Corps and the Department of Defense to provide fundraising and other necessary support for the program.
