ELKHART — The Elkhart Area Marines have launched this year’s Toys for Tots collection drive, according to a report in the Elkhart Truth.
The organization on Monday began delivering boxes to the 220 businesses that signed on to serve as collection points. Toys for children up to age 14 will be gathered until Dec. 9 and then sorted by volunteers at a Grand Design RV warehouse at 5200 Hoffman St.
Toys will be distributed on Dec. 16 and 17. Last year, the Elkhart Marines gave 19,305 toys to 2,563 children, according to coordinator Ed Hiar.
“This year, what we want to do is increase the amount of children that we’re serving, and families, so we’re trying to get the word out,” he said at the launch event at Grand Design RV. “There’s a lot of need in Elkhart County…. I’m so appreciative of those that have stepped up to be leaders in the community.”
