Go RVing’s Mike Caudill Embraces Brand Ambassador Role
Mike Caudill is a man in motion.
Caudill has made a reputation for himself over the years as a writer for several respected automotive publications. However, that is only one facet of his work, which also includes serving as on-air TV personality and commentator, working as a corporate consultant to blue chip firms, and being the owner of DRIVEN360, a public relations and marketing agency.
So, perhaps it’s no surprise that when the Go RVing campaign hired Caudill earlier this year as a brand ambassador, he embraced the role with gusto.
After securing a Winnebago Forza motorhome from Campers Inn, Caudill, his wife Flora, his two teenage children and the family dog embarked upon a 27-day road trip in the southeastern U.S. He frequently posted about his experiences on the Go RVing Facebook page under the header “Go RVing with the Caudills”.
Despite encountering some minor issues associated with an extended RV road trip, Caudill says his family bonded while visiting scenic locations, eating lots of great food and staying at several beautiful RV campgrounds.
“That’s what it’s all about—the memories we get to create with our families,” he says of RVing.
In late September, Caudill attended his first Elkhart Open House Week.
“It was epic,” he says. “I was in my element. I had so much fun. I never felt so at home around so many amazing people and had such a great time. And I was able to marry two of my great passions—RVs and live television.”
While in Elkhart, Caudill filmed segments for CNN as well as several TV stations across the country that featured him talking about the strength of the RV industry and the trends he observed after touring RV manufacturer displays. Caudill also created multiple Facebook Live segments on Go RVing’s Facebook page, where he interviewed company CEOs and other executives about new technologies, new floorplans and other notable developments.
Caudill’s visit to Elkhart followed his trip to Washington, D.C., in June to participate in Advocacy Day during RVs Move America Week, where he had the opportunity to visit members of the congressional delegation for his home state of Tennessee.
And earlier this month, Caudill launched a new social media series called “Geared Up to Go RVing” on Go RVing’s Facebook page, which will highlight essential skills and “how-tos” for both new and experienced RVers. The first video in the series can be viewed here.
Caudill’s RV Roots Run Deep
While Caudill built his career reputation as an automotive journalist, he is quick to tout his bona fides as an RVer.
“I know more about RVs than I do about cars, trucks and SUVs,” he says. “Cars are a function of what I do for work, and I love it, but I’ve been RVing since I was born.”
He vividly recalls the many camping trips that he, his sister and parents took in the family Volkswagen Westphalia campervan.
“That was how I spent my childhood, traveling across the western U.S. visiting places like Lake Tahoe and Mount Shasta,” he says.
Caudill says he has always had an aptitude for mechanical things, so he spent his years growing up at home learning how the components on the campervan worked and diagnosing problems. Later, after he and his wife married, they acquired a Keystone travel trailer, which they towed across the western U.S. on trips for several years before upgrading to a Thor Hurricane Class A motorhome.
His introduction to Go RVing came when he attended the 2019 RV Industry Association RVX trade show in Salt Lake City. At the time, Caudill and Go RVing officials talked about areas where they might collaborate, which culminated this year when he was hired to serve as a brand ambassador.
Caudill says he’s enjoyed collaborating with Go RVing representatives on various promotional activities thus far, adding, “I can’t wait for what comes next.”
