Go For a Hike and AllTrails Will Plant a Tree for You

As the weather warms up and we kick off Earth Month, there’s no better time to lace up your hiking boots and get outside. Adding to this with a further incentive is the popular hiking app AllTrails, which has committed to planting a tree for every trail activity you and your friends do outside this weekend, 6-7 April. The impressive initiative goes beyond simply encouraging its massive community of over 60 million members to enjoy the great outdoors—it’s about making a tangible impact on our planet now and for future generations, too.

So how does it work? Hikers, walkers, trail runners and anyone else using the AllTrails app will simply use the Navigator tool to record their activity. AllTrails will then measure cumulative data from the weekend and, in partnership with global reforestation nonprofit One Tree Planted, will plant a tree for every person who logged activity for at least one hour on the trail. The more AllTrails users get outside, the more trees will be planted—up to 100,000 trees!—contributing to a healthier planet for all. Pretty rad coming from the award-winning app that seemingly everyone is already using.

Of course, if you’re reading this you don’t need a reminder, but the benefits of more trees are undeniable—from increasing oxygen production and removing tons of carbon dioxide to reducing stress among people who spend time in the forest.
