Fun Town Acquires Mich. Dealer, Sponsors Heritage Bowl – RVBusiness – Breaking RV Industry News
CORSICANA, Texas – Fun Town RV is making news in a couple of ways this weekend, announcing today the acquisition of McDowell RV in North Branch, Mich., and on Saturday serving as sponsor of the Fun Town RV Heritage Bowl.
The acquisition marks Fun Town RV’s 19th retail RV sales location, expanding its footprint in the Midwest RV market.
“We are excited to welcome McDowell RV’s team to our family and look forward to continuing their tradition of great service in Michigan,” said Jarrod McGhee, founder CEO of Fun Town RV.
Karin Palmer, owner of McDowell RV, shared her enthusiasm for the new partnership. “Joining Fun Town RV is a great step forward, allowing us to enhance our services and reach a broader customer base in Michigan,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Fun Town RV Heritage Bowl is set for noon, Saturday at Community National Bank & Trust Stadium at Tiger Field, located on the campus of Corsicana High School.
“That’s a fun little game we have down there every year,” said McGhee. “A lot people don’t know it, but that’s my hometown,” he added, noting that he attended the high school whose stadium hosts the game.
Corsicana, of course, also is home to a Fun Town RV dealership, and over the years Fun Town has had a close relationship with the high school as well as Navarro College – also located in Corsicana – where McGhee was made an honorary graduate.
“I have always enjoyed being a supporter of the local community and was proud to jump onboard with the Fun Town RV Heritage Bowl,” he said. “We were already doing some things with the schools, some tech training and things, and then the Heritage Bowl popped up and we were able to come in there and be a part of it. We get to meet a lot of really good kids and be part of the community and try to get some people from the high school and college level into the RV industry. That’s kind of how the history of that Heritage Bowl went.”
In its third year of a three-year sponsorship, McGhee said Fun Town would most likely re-up for another three years.
“Yeah, it’s really good for the morale of the employees who work in the store there,” he said. “You wouldn’t believe how many people travel in RVs to come to these games. One of the teams playing is from Kansas, close to where we have another store. We had several sets of RVers yesterday who came down and were staying at our park down here. So, it’s kind of fun. You can see the synergy of how it’s all working together. It’s amazing how many college football fans are RVers and campers.”
For his part, McGhee will not be attending the game.
“I’m just about to jump on a plane and fly to Indiana,” McGhee said this morning when he spoke with RVBusiness. He will be attending the wedding of Forest River’s Ron Mullet, the general manager of the Salem, Wildwood, Vibe and Impression lines.
The game itself features an NCAA Division II matchup between the Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene University, hailing from Bethany, Okla., and the Hornets of Emporia State University, located in Emporia, Kan. Quarterbacks for both schools – SNU’s Gage Porter and Bradon Gleason of ESU – are finalists for the Harlon Hill Award, which is considered by many to be the Division II equivalent of the Heisman Trophy.
The first two games were played under the Corsicana Bowl name, with the 2019 version donning the Heritage Bowl moniker. The Division II post-season contest will be played Dec. 4 at Community National Bank & Trust Stadium and will be broadcast again by Princeton media, with the start time still to be determined. The 2019 broadcast of the game was distributed to more than 100 million homes across the country and internationally.
Fun Town RV currently has 19 locations in Indiana, Michigan, Oklahoma and Texas, with more in the pipeline.
