EDITOR’S NOTE: Tony Barthel, who with his wife, Peggy, produces the Stressless Camping podcast and website, is attending the Forest River Owners Group (FROG) International Rally this week at the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds in Goshen, Ind. He is providing a daily update on the FROG Rally for RVBusiness.

GOSHEN, Ind. – One of the highlights of the Forest River Owners Group (FROG) Rally taking place this week is owners of all of Forest River’s brands gathered to learn and interact with officials – including those from what just might be the single biggest family of RVs on the fairgrounds, Rockwood and Flagstaff.

From pop-up tent trailers to expandable models to mid-sized trailers and up to fifth-wheels, it is estimated that more than 40% of the attendees were towing either a Rockwood or Flagstaff product.

This kind of number explains the popularity of the company-sponsored gathering for Rockwood/Flagstaff owners, which was attended by hundreds of owners, as well as many of the decision makers. That gathering included an introduction of the company’s team, including service and warranty, sales, management and marketing.

A demonstration of the type of relationship the company has could be explained by the loud cheering and applause given to the people who handle the company’s parts distribution and warranty service. It’s not always that people are happy with how these aspects of RV ownership are handled, so this speaks volumes.

RVBusiness got a chance to catch-up with Karl Miller, Operations Manager for Rockwood/Flagstaff, to learn what the buzz was all about.

“Over the years, we’ve been able to get a lot of feedback and put that into place to improve the product and customers tell us how we’re listening and improving the quality of what we’re doing here,” said Miller.

Alyssa Cox of Forest River hands a thank you gift to Amber Durand.

“Our goal is to meet our customers face-to-face and show what our brand means to our customers,” remarked Alyssa Cox, Marketing Director for the brands.

“People love their Rockwood and Flagstaff units and we have such a high level of communication with our customers about their units it’s great to be here with our customers.”

That feeling was reiterated by Miller. “We work to connect our team to the retail customer so we ca better understand their needs,” he said. “There’s something to meeting someone face-to face instead of over email or phone call.”

The gathering had a very positive tone among customers and team members alike, with lots of stories of adventures, modifications and favorite models.

Of course, the FROG rally isn’t just about Rockwood and Flagstaff product as attendees looked over the new units from a variety of Forest River brands and gathered details from the on-hand personnel from the various brands. Even pontoon boats are on display here, so it’s not just campers.

The final few workshops and seminars happen today, along with a number of tours of the area. RVBusiness will speak with some of the vendors about their experience at the rally.
