Extras That Will Attract Guests and Increase Your Nightly Rate

Booking.com

Extras are great for putting your listing over the top when guests are planning their next trip & comparing your property to others. Even simple extras add up quickly and your guests will really appreciate it. Not only can extras help increase your nightly rate, but they can give you a fun, creative way to make your property special.

So, what do we mean when say “extras”?

Extras” = an easy way to describe any feature, amenity, convenience, etc. that isn’t typically found at a basic campsite.

Extras can be as simple as offering firewood. But it can also mean going the extra mile with a thoughtful “just-in-case kit” of travel-size toiletries. Or it could be something experiential like innertubes or pool floaties that guests can use if you have waterfront access on your property. So, to help out hosts like you, we’ve put together some of our favorite ideas for you to choose from. And remember, start small—a little goes a long way for guests—and have fun getting creative with what you offer.  Extras of any kind can help your property stand out & leave guests with a positive, lasting impression of their stay.

Functional Extras

To get started, here are some useful extras that guests appreciate and make their stay feel smoother, easier, and more relaxing. Some may seem obvious at first, but don’t underestimate them, utility has a lot of value for your guests. Every added convenience you provide to guests means one less thing they have to think about, bring from home, or buy ahead of time.

  • Garbage and recycling bins for easy, correct waste disposal.
  • A large umbrella for shade in the summer and/or shelter from the rain on poor weather days.
  • An easy-to-use cooking stove. And make sure to include fuel for the stove, plus at least one extra fuel tank on standby.
  • A “just in case” kit complete with Band-Aids, a matchbox, travel-size toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, personal hygiene items, etc), and any other necessities or ‘nice-to-have’ items you can think of.

Ready to take it to the next level?

  • A camp kitchen — you can stock it with things like dishwashing supplies, utensils, dishes, cups, spices, plenty of drinking water, mason jars, an iron skillet, etc.
  • Outdoor furniture and/or a picnic table, which add comfort and utility.
  • Lanterns — they’re always useful to have around, plus they add an extra level of comfort & safety.
  • An outdoor shower — this is a huge asset for campers of all kinds, especially those camping with kids, or for people that like to spend the day working up a sweat hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, etc.

Fun Extras

Lawn games

Now let’s move away from function and focus on fun. Plenty of guests will come for their stay planning on spending a lot of their time hanging out on the property. So, having fun entertainment options readily available to guests is a great idea. And fun isn’t just for kids, so remember to offer fun activity options for the adults, too.

  • Games — offering a variety of board games or a dart board are simple but appreciated extras. We also recommend any of these popular outdoor lawn games: “bags” or “cornhole” (depending on what part of the country you’re from), horseshoes, jumbo Jenga, ladder toss, bocce ball, etc.
  • Create a written guide — highlight nearby activities, trails, points of interest, and other useful information.

Some next-level fun:

  • A hammock is a small investment, and well worth it.
  • Hang a tire swing on a sturdy branch to add something for the kids.
  • Playground equipment
  • Biking trails (as seen in the picture above, from Roamer Sites – Oregon)
