Entertaining Footage Shows Foxes Having Fun With Trail Cam

Trail-camera footage is perfect for seeing what animals do when they think humans aren’t watching. Sometimes, though, the animals don’t just go about their business as if the camera wasn’t there; they actually interact with the camera. This happened to Vishal Subramanyan, a wildlife conservation photographer, when he planted a trail cam in the Santa Lucia Mountains of coastal-central California. Some gray foxes found his trail cam and had a blast with it. Thankfully, another camera nearby caught the whole thing. Subramanyan recently posted the footage to Instagram.

“A few years ago, I placed my DSLR camera trap in the Santa Lucia mountain range in hopes of camera trapping mountain lions,” Subramanyan explained in his post. “When I returned to check the camera, I was surprised to see it was pointing the wrong way. My trail cameras soon revealed the culprit – a couple of curious gray foxes that had decided to use my camera trap as a chew toy. Over those 6 weeks, I got several videos as the foxes played with my camera.”
