Enjoy Free Entry Into a National Park on National Public Lands Day, Or Give Back by Volunteering
For the fourth time this year, you can enjoy free entry into a national park. This Saturday is National Public Lands Day. To help celebrate, the National Park Service (NPS) is removing entry fees for the day, but you can go a step further and participate by volunteering.
National Public Lands Day is an annual event led by the National Environmental Education Foundation, which works with the NPS and other federal agencies to commemorate the day. They get thousands of volunteers yearly to help restore and protect public lands. These efforts include big projects in national parks as well as local tasks in neighborhood parks.
Finding a project in your area is easy. Just head over to the National Environmental Education Foundation website and check out the interactive map where you can plug your address in to see what’s nearby.
National Public Lands Day is just one way to help our national parks. Other programs, like “Facelift” events, allow people to help clean up their favorite outdoor areas.
If you have to miss this free entry into a national park, there’s one more chance on November 11, Veterans Day.
