GOSHEN, Ind. – Dutchmen RV Plant 820 proudly recognizes Candy Heath for her quick and decisive actions that saved the life of Tracie Nowicki, a co-worker, according to a release.

Tracie, who is a diabetic, was experiencing a sudden diabetic crash and urgently required food. While she was in the break area having a snack, a piece of food became lodged in her throat causing her to choke and depriving her of oxygen. Without hesitation, Candy rushed to her aid, performing the Heimlich maneuver and dislodging the obstructing food from Tracie’s throat.

Tracie’s alarming condition left her unable to call for help as she struggled to breathe. “I honestly didn’t think I was going to survive as I couldn’t breathe or call for help. My fingers and face were turning blue,” stated Nowicki.

Candy just happened to walk in through the exterior break area door, a door she normally doesn’t go through, when she looked over and saw a fellow co-worker in trouble. Candy’s timely intervention proved critical in preventing a potential tragedy. Despite the urgency of the situation, Candy’s training and instinct kicked in, allowing her to assess and respond effectively to the emergency.

Reflecting on her actions, “Because of my training I just did what was needed, honestly I didn’t even think. I wasn’t afraid, I just knew she needed help” stated Heath. Her selfless act exemplifies the values of compassion and courage that define the Dutchmen community. In a tearful sentiment “I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for Candy,” stated Nowicki.

In recognition of her heroic efforts, Dutchmen and Keystone RV presented Candy Heath with the Courageous Action Award in a formal ceremony held on March 7th. The award serves as a testament to Candy’s bravery and unwavering commitment to the well-being of her colleagues.

“Candy’s actions embody the spirit of teamwork and compassion that we strive to foster within our organization,” remarked Aaron Young, president at Dutchmen. “Her quick thinking and bravery undoubtedly saved a life, and we are immensely proud to have her as part of our team.”

The entire Dutchmen community extends heartfelt gratitude to Candy Heath for her extraordinary act of heroism and for exemplifying the values of compassion and solidarity.
