Caught on a Trail Cam: Black Bear Catches Midnight Snack

Wildlife photographer Henrik Nilsson captured the moment a black bear went out for a midnight snack on a trail cam. While you don’t get to see the bear snatch its salmon snack from the nearby river, you do get to see the massive salmon up close as the bear saunters past the trail camera with the fish in its mouth.

“Although bears aren’t true hibernators, they still need sufficient fat reserves to make it through winter,” wrote Nilsson in his Instagram post sharing the video from December 2023. “Here a [black bear] carries a large male salmon deep into the forest. I recently retrieved this footage from one of my most remote cameras that I hadn’t been able to check for a while.”

Look at the jaws on that salmon!
