Camp Keepers: The Campers Hub in Montrose, Colorado
Taylor and Scott Johnson are the Camp Keepers at The Campers Hub in Montrose, CO. Here’s how they got started with that gig:
“We started RVing in July 2019. We thought we’d be on the road for three months. Turned into two years. The community and entrepreneurs we met along the way inspired us to build our own campground rather than keep our 9-to-5 jobs.
The pandemic happened while we were on the road, and we thought: ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if there was a co-working space that was also a campground?’ We connected with another couple who were planning to create their own RV park in Montrose, but they ultimately decided it wasn’t their journey. They had found the property, though, and they asked if we wanted to jump on it.
So, we did. We’re right off Highway 50, just north of the Million Dollar Highway, an area that gets a ton of RV traffic throughout the year. We have an old school house that we turned into a co-working space and event center, and we have an adjacent lot that was agricultural land—which is where the RV hookups are.
Right now, we’ve built 17 spots that are open year-round and are about 30 feet long. We’re building more every day—doing most of the work ourselves—and when we’re completely done in about five years, we hope to have about 130 sites. The area has grown so much, and everyone in the community has been so kind to us.”
