By The Bay Campground Opening in Historic Patriot, Indiana
Welcome to Patriot, Indiana, proudly standing as the only incorporated town in the Union with that iconic name! Patriot is a small, seven-block town on the Ohio River, centrally located between Louisville and Cincinnati. Established in 1820, the town carries quite a history. Dr. Elwood Mead was born and raised in the area and is famously known for designing the Hoover Dam. Augusta Stevenson, an author of children’s literature, lived in a home along the river that still stands today! Patriot is the easternmost town in of Indiana, with a booming population of 200. Patriot has suffered many setbacks in its 200+ year history, including a fire in 1924 that destroyed a lot of homes and businesses. Flood waters came to town, most notably in 1937, but again in 1964 and 1997. Each time, the town bounced back better than ever.

General Store
Currently, the town is home to the oldest general store in the county, complete with original wood floors. There’s also a post office, two churches, and a liquor store. The town also has a beautiful memorial park that houses a piece of the World Trade Center. Each year on the Fourth of July, the town has a parade and recently has added fireworks. Sitting on 8 acres of ground, the campground is along Wade Bay. Wade Bay was originally Wade Creek and became a bay of water when the Markland Dam was constructed in 1964. The bay is home to many creatures, but most significantly, Bald Eagles; it is not uncommon to see them in and around the area daily.

By The Bay will feature 41 sites, full hookups, fire rings, and picnic tables at each site, bathhouse, and laundry facility. The town is golf cart friendly, and only blocks away is a nice park with a basketball court, ball field, and playground equipment. Just up the road, there is a public boat ramp and another creek you can explore in a kayak or canoe. We have designs for adding a swimming pool and hope to have that completed this year, along with the opening of the campground! We are centrally located between 4 casinos, golf courses, Ark Encounter, and many other attractions!
