Bucket-List Road Trips in Canada
Are there any road trips in Canada on your RV bucket list? If not, there should be! The second-largest country in the world, Canada is full of beautiful scenery, unforgettable national parks, and great people!
Despite what some may think, Canada isn’t cold and snowy all the time. Spring, summer, and fall in Canada are full of stunning landscapes and great camping. While winter has its own beauty, it does make RVing a little more challenging. But many RVers find the scenic wonders are well worth the winter prep!
So, start planning today! May–October is the unofficial camping season in Canada, with June–August being the high season. When you choose to go is up to you and regardless of the season, you won’t be disappointed with any of these road trips in Canada!
Jewels Of The Rocky Mountains
The great Rocky Mountains stretch through Western Canada and offer some of the most epic views and adventures anywhere in the world! When you search road trips in Canada this will be on every list.
Parks Canada, Canada’s National Park Service, protects most of the areas surrounding the Rockies. Starting in Alberta on Highway 1 (Trans Canada Highway) Banff National Park can be the home base for a once-in-a-life drive. Banff connects to Jasper National Park via highway 93 and the drive between is full of amazing mountain views, wildlife including grizzly bears, elk, big horn sheep, and camping.
Dividing the province of Alberta and British Columbia to the West the Rockies extend through BC to loop you back South from Jasper National Park. South on highway 93 and 95 you experience Yoho, Glacier, and Kootenay National Parks. Canmore, Lake Louise, Golden, Radium Hot Springs, and Fernie are a few small towns along the way you’ll want to explore.
Northern Lights and Aboriginal Culture
Canada’s north is some of the most beautiful and culturally rich areas of the country. The Aurora Borealis or northern lights as they are commonly referred to are a spectacle you have to see to believe!
October through April is considered the best time to see this unworldly sky show; however, they are present year-round. A trip through Canada’s northern territories, the Northwest Territories, and Yukon is not necessarily a touristy road trip and is ideal for nature lovers and remote explorers. Due to its high latitude, daylight in the north can vary from 24 hours a day to none!
Getting to the territories is a road trip in itself, however, the trip between NWT and YK is a great time to unplug and escape reality.
Wine and Waterfalls
Moving toward central Canada and north of New York state, Ontario, Canada, has some unique features. An easy trip across the border and you are in Niagra Falls. The world-famous waterfall that extends into the United States is worth the drive itself.
As spectacular as Niagra Falls is, southern Ontario also has one of Canada’s few wine regions. The Niagara area along Lake Ontario is home to some of Canada’s finest wineries. With over 180 wineries the province of Ontario is Canada’s largest producer of wine.
The Niagara peninsula and southern Ontario in general have some of Canada’s best weather and longest camping season as well as tons of RV parks. Any road trips in Canada should go thorugh Ontario!
Seafood, Beaches, and Friendly Folks
The east coast of Canada is a truly special place. The provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland are very different from the rest of the country.
Fishing is the glue that holds this part of the country together and so seafood is abundant. Small fishing villages are scattered throughout all four provinces with stunning coastline views everywhere you turn.
As friendly as Canadians in general are, maritimers are on another level of kind-heartedness and hospitality. Due to the small size and close proximity of the east coast provinces, they can all be bundled into one making this one of the most road trips in Canada!
Best Road Trips in Canada
Vancouver, on the west coast of Canada, to St. John’s Newfoundland on the east, is almost 5,000 miles! Each province has its own vibe. Essentially, any road trip in Canada will deliver!
Camping in Canada is as popular as hockey and it is an amazing place to RV. With lots of RV parks, dealers, and services for RVers, a Canadian road trip should definitely be on your bucket list. Start planning today!
