Black Book: Wholesale RV Values Rise as Volume Drops
Black Book, which publishes a family of vehicle appraisal guides, has released the Black Book RV Market Commentary for September.
“The average sales prices for motor homes and towables sold at wholesale auctions increased last month, the second consecutive month where prices rose across the board. Some factors which played a role in this increase were the age of the units, the quantity that were run through the lanes, the relative condition of the units and the mix of makes and models that were offered,” said Eric Lawrence, Black Book principal automotive analyst, specialty vehicles.
“Taking a closer look at the markets, we see that the average selling price for motorized units was $79,668 which is up $6,053 (8.2%) from the previous month. Towables came in at $21,221, up $964 (4.7%) from last month. One year ago the average motorhome sold for $75,489 and the average towable unit brought $24,140,” he noted.
Auction volume was down: motorhomes dropped 22.3% while towables declined 0.8%. The average age of motorhomes was thirteen years old (2009) and towables was five (2017), the commentary stated.
