The Fourth of July is a great opportunity to spend time with family, grill delicious food, and enjoy the warm summer weather. But one of the biggest highlights of the holiday is definitely the fireworks! Over the years, Fourth of July fireworks displays have become a tradition all across the nation.

Almost every town has its own fireworks show, and many of them are quite impressive. But if you’re looking for some of the biggest and best shows in the country, you may want to head toward a major city. Larger cities have the budgets, manpower, and space to put on some truly spectacular displays. Every show is different though, and some of the smaller shows have their own unique attractions.

Bristol, Rhode Island

This Fourth of July celebration isn’t quite as large as others on this list, but it’s special in a different way: Bristol, Rhode Island, has the distinction of throwing the oldest continuous Fourth of July parade in the country.

It originally began back in 1785 and it’s still going strong today! This town goes all-out for the holiday and they throw a fantastic fireworks show over the Bristol Harbor. So if you want a small-town celebration with spirit to spare, this is the place to be.

Another great option in the Northeast is Bar Harbor. Their celebration has been nationally ranked by National Geographic and it’s a full-day experience. This town is located near Acadia National Park, so it’s a great place to visit if you want to combine the festivities with your outdoor vacation.

This firework display takes place over Frenchman Bay, so you’ll get a double bang for your buck with the reflections over the water.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The Declaration of Independence was originally signed in Philadelphia, so it makes sense that the city goes all-out with its Fourth of July fireworks! This is one of the biggest displays in the country and people come from miles around to take part in the festivities.

The celebration has even expanded in recent years, thanks to the addition of Juneteenth as an official holiday. For 16 days, you can enjoy concerts, parades, parties, and other free events throughout the city. The Fourth of July may be the biggest day for fireworks, but you’ll probably see plenty of them in the days before and after as well.

The event is nicknamed “Let Freedom Sing” and it definitely delivers on the promise of patriotism and great music. The fireworks are even synchronized with music for the full Nashville experience.
