Be Online Anywhere: RoamLink Connect Transforms RV Internet Access

When we hit the road full-time 17 years ago, our expensive rooftop mounted mobile satellite internet dish and modem enabled us to enjoy RV internet access anywhere we camped. Eventually that system got retired as cellular broadband data became more available nationwide. Before long, we were depending on our smartphones and cellular hotspots to get online. But relying solely on cellular service to get online was never a reliable solution. Until now, that is.

Cellular mobile internet access just made one of the greatest advances in years. That’s when the team at MobileMustHave released RoamLink Connect. This is their new all-in-one system that gets users online just about anywhere. And it does it regardless of which carrier owns the nearest cell tower. And, without the need to invest in another satellite internet system, or even a router. Finally, nomads have reliable access with a plug-and-play internet gateway. It’s far more affordable, robust, and easier to use than any other RV internet access plans we’ve researched.

Journey Across North America: RoamLink Connect in Action

The perfect chance to test and evaluate this all-in-one mobile internet option for RVers happened last summer. That’s when we downsized from a fifth-wheel and packed up our pop-up truck camper to head south from Alaska. We meandered down the West Coast and out to the East Coast. Then we traveled back to the Rockies, all within the span of four months. But we weren’t on vacation. Throughout all those miles, we still held down our internet-based gigs. We worked from the truck, and wherever we camped. And we were only able to do so thanks to the portable and easy to use RoamLink Connect (RLC) system. The US-based team at MobileMustHave was kind enough to send us a unit in return for an honest evaluation.

The RoamLink Connect RV internet access plan is a complete plug-and-play system.

When you choose RoamLink Connect, you receive both the device that gets you online (already pre-configured by the MobileMustHave team). You also get the multi-carrier data plan itself. We opted to test this product instead of the company’s RoamLink Wireless plan. This is a great option for users who who already own a Peplink router. You also have the option to buy one outright from MobileMustHave. When users bring their Peplink to the plan, MobileMustHave operates as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) on the router, and automatically connects to the strongest available signal with just one SIM card.

Effortless Connectivity with Plug-and-Play Internet for RVers

To prepare for our cross-continent journey, we installed the RoamLink Duo WiFi router in our Project M. This is a tiny camper, with limited space, so the small footprint of this powerful device was a big plus. It was ridiculously simple to tap into the camper’s DC power. But the true benefit comes from its connection to two different cellular service providers at the same time. After all, redundancy is the best solution for reliable mobile internet. The RLC Duo and accompanying data plan give us the confidence to once again work from anywhere.

The Duo is a fully configured Peplink Internet Gateway. It comes with four screw-on paddle antennas that receive and broadcast cellular and WiFi signals. Out of the box, these are four times stronger than any smartphone antenna. But to enhance our chances for the best possible cellular connectivity, we chose to get the optional Peplink Slim 40G 4×4 MIMO antenna.

The multiple input, multiple output technology improves our connection by minimizing network errors and optimizing data. And, with much stronger peak gain, the Slim more than doubles the cellular signal performance of the included antennas. Plus, it requires no drilling into the roof. Lastly, we mounted the RLC Duo to our ceiling in the Basecamp Router Enclosure for a tidy, out of the way installation.

The RoamLink Connect system lives up to the MobileMustHave promise of being a truly plug and play mobile internet solution. The password on the back of the router or one scan of the QR code had us online with all our devices in minutes. With the antenna in our camper window, we’re able to work from the truck while driving, or anywhere around our campsite once parked. At one campground, we even picked up the signal at a laundry room far from our campsite. Good thing, since the park had no WiFi.

The RoamLink Connect Duo and accompanying RoamLink data plan is a must-have for a robust, redundant, uninterrupted internet connection. Unlike most other cellular routers in the marketplace, the Duo is certified with all US providers including Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and U.S Cellular. This certification is important as it guarantees the RoamLink team has priority status to access carrier support should there ever be a problem with the device getting online.

Harnessing Multi-Carrier Power for Reliable RV Internet Access

The Duo works so effectively because it’s configured out of the box to simultaneously connect to two different carriers. This gets you the strongest signal possible, and instant redundancy for your internet connection. RoamLink Wireless manages the data on their proprietary network created by RVers, for RVers. Using AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and US Cellular towers leased by RoamLink, users benefit from prioritized, first-in-line multi-carrier connectivity no matter where they are. And, when the nearby cell tower gets too saturated in crowded locations, RoamLink users are the last to get throttled by the cellular company that owns it. Plus, WAN ports on the Duo provide yet another level of redundancy for those who wish to add a satellite internet dish or other network connection to the router.

RoamLink Connect users can choose from four flexible plan sizes based on usage.

Plans start at $69 a month with no contract required. Certified to work alongside Starlink, all RoamLink devices can provide a seamless multi-source internet solution if an RVer chooses to add it to their plan for a small connection fee.

Prior to this trip, we had never visited so many parts of the country in one season. And we did it while relying exclusively on cellular broadband, another first for us. When your income depends on internet connectivity, taking a risk by using one plan from one provider feels risky. But that’s not what you’re doing when you sign up for affordable, superior internet service with RoamLink. You actually have the power of all major cellular providers in one device. Better yet, RoamLink does the heavy lifting to manage all those connections for you.

Better than Boosters, RoamLink Connect is a Superior Solution

After just a few days of putting the RoamLink to the test in some pretty remote areas, we knew we wouldn’t be forced to head back to town just for internet access. We relied on RoamLink to get us online in big cities and remote spots. Confident we’d have access, we headed the rugged coast of Cape Flattery, Washington – the westernmost point in the Lower 48 states – to the flatlands of Milford, Nebraska, and the hollers of Beaver, West Virginia. Not once did we worry about what carrier was leasing the nearest cell tower, or whether or not trees were going to block our signal.

Connecting was as seamless as flipping the router switch and opening our laptops. It was far better than any cell signal booster we’ve tried. All boosters just pick up signal and then resubmits it. The Duo broadcasts differently than a booster, and does a good job at receiving weaker cellular signals from further away.

Cellular coverage maps don’t tell the whole story.

Of the few downsides that we experienced, the biggest was just not knowing what the cell service was going to be like until we got there. Coverage maps and apps are not always as accurate as you would like. One other downside is that more technically-inclined users don’t have total control over the backend administration of the device. But, if that level of tweaking is needed, the US-based tech team at RoamLink is happy to get on a call to help figure it out. That concerned us at first, since my husband is a total techie always working on our computers and networks.

But after four months of using the system, we still haven’t needed RoamLink to intervene and help us with connectivity. Based on what we have experienced, we probably won’t ever need to go there. Not fussing with connectivity is one less thing to worry about while living and working on the road.

Seamless Connectivity with RoamLink Connect Enhances RV Travel

We experienced few instances when the RoamLink Connect signal wasn’t strong enough to stream YouTube videos. That was just the nature of where we were camped, with poor cellular connectivity all around us. Thankfully our work wasn’t affected, and we never got throttled with our unlimited contract-free RoamLink data plan.

Some day in the future we may add another satellite system to our internet repertoire. But for now, we don’t find it necessary. The RoamLink Connect system is an ideal solution. It offers ease of use with minimal space requirements. You get better technical support behind it than any other provider.

MobileMustHave has set a new standard for mobile internet through their seamless, plug-and-play system that connects to multiple cellular networks. RV travelers like us finally have the freedom and flexibility to explore without the constraints of traditional RV internet access limitations. With its user-friendly setup, robust performance, and excellent company support, RoamLink Connect is an indispensable part of the modern RV internet toolkit.
