Amorim Cork Composites Touts Bio-Based Panel for RVs – RVBusiness – Breaking RV Industry News

Developed for use as a core of multi-layer panels, the Bio Based Panel is an extremely lightweight material that reduces the weight of vehicles without undermining their size or performance.

This solution is made of cork – a 100% natural and recyclable material – and a layer of flax fiber on each side. It can be used in trains, motorhomes, ships or any other vehicle where energy efficiency gains and better levels of sustainability are sought.

The mobility sector is undergoing significant changes, driven by the sustainability goals established for 2050. There is a growing effort to create more energy-efficient vehicles, which has led to high demand and consequent development of more environmentally friendly materials that do not undermine their performance.

The Bio Based Panel, developed by Amorim Cork Composites – Corticeira Amorim’s business unit that develops products, solutions and applications for some of the world’s most sophisticated activities – was born out of this need to reduce the weight of vehicles, and improve their energy efficiency and, consequently, their environmental impact.

The Bio-Based Panel uses cork’s unique properties and presents itself as an incomparably lighter material, developed for use as the core of multi-layer panels typically used in different vehicles. When compared to a typical plywood panel with the same structure, Bio-Based Panel can reduce the total weight of the system by around 10 per cent.

The choice of lighter materials for the construction of vehicles makes it possible to reduce their weight without having to reduce their size, load capacity or safety.

Cork also improves the final system in terms of its acoustic performance, thermal insulation and vibration reduction, while contributing to a more sustainable future.

Suitable for ships, trains, buses or caravans, the Bio Based Panel, by contributing to lighter vehicles, promotes a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions, making it an ecological choice and reinforcing Amorim Cork Composites’ mission to position cork as an indispensable material in order to deliver genuine change in the mobility sector.
