Black Book: RV Auction Volume Up As New Inventory Rises

Black Book, which publishes a family of vehicle appraisal guides, has released the Black Book RV market commentary for June.

“For the second consecutive month, RV auction volume is up significantly over the prior month, once again almost certainly due to the increase in trade-ins on new RV sales,” reported Eric Lawrence, Black Book principal analyst – specialty markets.  “This allows dealers to be a little choosier about which trades they retain for their retail lots and which they send to the wholesale auctions.  We have also heard reports from the lanes that repossessions are increasing in several regions.”

The report noted the average selling price was $65,366, down $7,873 (10.7%) from the previous month. One year ago, the average selling price was $73,350. Auction volume was up 37.5% from the previous month.  The average model year was 2013.

Also, for towables (including Travel Trailers and Fifth Wheels) the average selling price was $21,130, down $24 (0.1%) from the previous month. One year ago, the average selling price was $20,883. Auction volume was up 20.2% from the previous month. The average model year was 2017.
