Randy Jenkins, Camground Industry Leader, Passes Away

Randy Jenkins, a former park owner, National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (National ARVC) board member and North Carolina Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds board member, passed away on June 14. He was 67.

Jocelyn Jenkins, his wife, told WOODALLSCM.com (WCM) that Randy and her moved from Maryland to North Carolina in 1980 to help her parents who had just purchased Midway Campground & RV Resort in Statesville.

“We both worked at the campground while raising our two kids,” she noted. “We purchased the campground in 1990 from my mom, three years after my dad passed. Mom retired and we continued to expand and improve the park while raising our kids.”

Randy was well-known among park owners as a regular presence at state and national conferences both for his work with the campground and also through his recent sales position with The Jump Pad.

Randy served as state president of the North Carolina Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds for several years, which is now a part of the Carolinas Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (CARVC). He was also a National ARVC board member from 1999-2005, including a stint as Membership Chairman from 2003-2005.

In 2009, Randy and Jocelyn decided to turn the park into a Kampgrounds of America Inc. location but left the KOA system in 2013.

Randy had a five-way bypass procedure done in 2012 and stepped away from working at the park full-time.

“Our daughter and husband live on-site and took over as managers,” explained Jocelyn. “They are still there and plan to keep the park in the family. With our granddaughter helping — who is now a teenager — we have had four generations involved since 1979.

“We feel lucky to have had the opportunity to raise our kids at the park and now to see our granddaughter being raised at the park too,” she added.

Throughout the years Randy was honored with a number of awards including an Award of Appreciation from National ARVC and the Tim Malone Memorial Award from the N.C. association in 2003 for “unselfish contributions to the camping industry.”

Jeff Sims, National ARVC’s senior director of state relations and program advocacy, told WCM that Randy will be greatly missed.

“He was a great friend and colleague of mine in the industry,” Sims noted.

Services for Randy will be held at the Bunch Johnson Funeral Home in Statesville, N.C., on June 22 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Heart Association in Randy’s name.

Randy (Boe) Jenkins, 67, of Statesville, North Carolina, passed away on June 14, 2023, in White Lake, North Carolina.  Randy was born on March 17, 1956, in Baltimore, Maryland, to his mother Esther (Jenkins) Garver.  He attended South Carroll High School in Eldersburg, Maryland.

Randy was a retired owner of Midway Campground and RV Resort. He was a hardworking and dedicated businessman who took pride in providing a comfortable and enjoyable experience for his guests. His love of camping, boating and traveling inspired him to pursue this career.

Randy was a loving, kind, generous, caring, outgoing, fun-loving and adventurous person. He had a contagious personality that made everyone around him feel loved and appreciated. He had a passion for life and cherished spending time with his family and friends.

Randy is survived by his wife Jocelyn Jenkins, and children Justin (Linda) Jenkins and Jocelyn (Tim) Hogue. Brother Wayne (Cherie) Jenkins, and grandchildren Jakob Jenkins, Kaleb Jenkins and Jocelyn Nicole Hogue. Nephew Robert Jenkins, and niece Tricia Jenkins, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother Esther (Jenkins) Garver, stepfathers Roscoe Frizzell and Herb Garver, as well as his grandparents, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Randy will be missed by all who knew him.
