We have toured thousands of RVs and campers, and we found the best used (or late model) RVs and campers for tall people. These RVs and campers have ample headroom, bed length, and shower height for tall people to be comfortable in their rig.

We’ve conducted enough RV tours to know if you’re 6′ tall and have a headspace that accommodates 6’1″, that’s certainly enough room. But it doesn’t ‘feel’ like enough room. Thankfully, most RV manufacturers readily recognize there are people in the world taller than 5′ 8″.

This list of used and late model RVs and campers for tall people will make a tall person feel as if they are walking on clouds. It’s so much easier to rest and relax in a home on wheels when you don’t feel the jagged edges of claustrophobia creeping in.

Do Tall People Have to Settle for Fifth Wheels?

When tall people walk into an RV dealership, they’re often walked straight to the fifth wheels. It can feel like profiling, but there are valid reasons RV sales representatives take this approach.

Many tall people drive pickup trucks because the vehicle has the most room for the drivers and passengers. For anyone who drives in with a pickup, sales reps are already thinking of fifth wheels as a possibility.

As we said above, travel trailers have ceiling heights that range from 6.4 to 6.8 feet. The average height of a fifth wheel’s interior measures between 8-10 feet. By maximizing the 13.6 roof height, and lowering the floor to travel trailer levels, full-profile fifth wheels cater to the tallest RVers.

Some floorplans make bedrooms and bathrooms (including showers) more comfortable for people as tall as Basketball Hall of Fame Legend Grant Hill (inducted in 2018), who is 6.8 feet tall.

Mid-Profile or Full-Profile Fifth Wheels: Which One is Better Suited For Tall People?

If you’re interested in fifth wheels, and ceiling height is an issue, you need to know the difference between mid-profile fifth wheels and the full-profile versions.

Mid-profiles are also known as half-ton 5th wheels. The mid-profiles are generally shorter in length, have less headroom, and have travel trailer-like features instead of residential-level amenities. A significant portion can be towed by a half-ton pickup truck like the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, or Dodge Ram 1500.

Half-tons mostly keep to the traditional fifth wheel floorplan with the master bedroom in the front cap area, living room in the rear, and kitchen mid-coach. It’s rare to see a mid-profile fifth wheel with a king-size bed.

7 Best Used Travel Trailers for Tall People

If we were just looking at campers for tall people and nothing else, that would be quite a bore. Not only are the below RVs more than accommodating for the vertically blessed, but they are also great RVs for a host of other reasons. Of course, that combination of attractive qualities is why they’re on our list.

Our Pros and Cons

✅ Massive storage capacity and a ton of space with nearly 5k pounds of CCC

⛔ Slide out blocks fridge when it’s in

  • Length: 36′ 6.5″
  • UVW: 10,607 lbs
  • GVWR: 15,000 lbs
  • CCC: 4,345 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 2,324 lbs
  • Sleeps: 6
  • Celing Height: 6′ 4″

This RV manufacturer is one of the few that install king-size beds as standard features in their mid-profile fifth wheels. While they do their best to maximize the RV for taller people, the interior bedroom and bathroom measures 6.4 feet.

To help with showering, there is a sunroof in the shower that adds extra head space. The freestanding table may become a knee-knocker for those with long legs, but the kitchen island does have seating on both sides.

As a full-feature fifth wheel with an outdoor kitchen, meal prep in the outdoor living space is possible. The roomy rear kitchen inside makes meal prep comfortable with plenty of counter space to work on. When it comes to mid-profile fifth wheels, the Elkridge is the best accommodating mid-profile fifth wheel for tall people.

Our Pros and Cons

✅ Massive pass-thru storage in the rear, with additional pass-thru in the front

⛔ Its nit-picky, but the kitchen island is a bit small for an RV this size

  • Length: 37’11”
  • UVW: 14,222 lbs
  • GVWR: 16,800 lbs
  • CCC: 2,578 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 3,096 lbs
  • Sleeps: 6
  • Celing Height: 8′ (average)

The Solitude 346FLS is a full-profile fifth wheel with a rear bedroom. Since it’s a popular option, many RV dealers order the coach with the optional king-size bed. Combine this with a ceiling height of 8′ and this fifth wheel is perfect for taller people.

Tall people will enjoy having the bedroom and bathroom on the main floor since it takes advantage of the entire interior height of the coach.

The fifth wheel’s front living room will be shorter, but once you’re resting comfortably in the powered reclining theatre seats with massage, the world will seem better.

One of the great features Grand Design is known for is its showers. Historically, the company takes consumer feedback seriously. One of the early features that came from their customers was developing the largest shower in the industry. The 346FLS not only gives you the full height of the main floor, but they also sunk the shower into the floor for added length.

The advantage of having a freestanding table instead of a dinette is the ability to replace the table. If you do bring in your own dining table, make sure you find a way to secure it to the floor or sidewall. Even heavy tables can slide around while you travel, damaging everything in its path.

Fivers Are Great for Tall People, But What If I Want a Camper or Motorhome?

Even though fifth wheels have the most headroom, doesn’t mean every tall person is going to line up to purchase one. Fifth wheels have their drawbacks:

  • Fifth wheels require pickup trucks. Many people have SUVs and aren’t ready to buy a new vehicle.
  • The weight of a full-profile fifth wheel requires a ¾ or full-ton pickup truck. 45-footers sometimes require a medium-duty semi-truck.
  • Full-profile fivers are better suited for the full-time RV lifestyle. Part-timers might want something that better fits their camping needs.
  • 5th wheels are the most expensive towable RV category. Used luxury fifth wheels can break the bank despite the depreciation factor.

If you’re looking for an alternative to a fifth wheel, but interior height is a factor, here are some great possibilities worth considering.

Great RVs and Campers For the Big and Tall That Aren’t Fifth Wheels

Fifth wheels aren’t the only campers out there that accommodate tall people. Even manufacturers that focus on smaller, innovative, or more affordably lightweight designs recognize the necessity for head space.

Our Pros and Cons

✅ Designed to go well off the beaten path with articulating DO35 hitch and extra clearance

⛔ Deflating and taking it down is not the easiest job in the world

  • Length: 18.5′
  • UVW: 3,100 lbs
  • GVWR: 4,300 lbs
  • CCC: 1,200 lbs
  • Tongue Weight:
  • Sleeps: 4
  • Celing Height: 8′

Ever since this Australian-based company brought their campers to the U.S., Americans have fallen in love with this off-road pop-up. In less than two minutes, you can have the Air Opus 4 Camper set up and ready to go.

And, it also happens to be one of the smallest campers for tall people on the market.

When you activate the built-in air pump, in 90 seconds, it fully inflates giving you an 8-foot interior ceiling. Assuming you’ve already secured the stabilizer jacks, the only other step is to secure the fabric to the queen beds on both ends.

If you need to convert the main bed to a king, the large U-shaped dinette can assist. Simply fold the backrest cushions down to the seat and you have the extra space.

Since the dinette can fully convert to a bed as well, you can bring down the table and add a second row of backrest cushions if needed. Hanging feet won’t be a problem in this camper.

If you look at the photo gallery on their website, you may be caught off-guard since there isn’t a kitchen inside the Opus camper. Before you “swipe left,” check out the pull-out drawer on the exterior.

Opus put the kitchen outside to maximize sleeping space. The 40-gallon freshwater tank feeds the single-basin sink. You’ll find a chest-style refrigerator, a two-burner LP stove, and storage for your cooking gear.

Additional accessories include air-inflated annex awning tents that allow you to turn the outdoor space into another room. The portable shower pairs well with a fold-up shower stall, and a cassette toilet makes the camper a full-featured coach.

Don’t forget to check out the cinema system that lets you watch your favorite movies on a projector and screen inside the RV. For your power needs, Opus offers a 140-watt solar panel system for those off-grid camping experiences.

Our Pros and Cons

✅ Massive windows throughout for plenty of natural lighting

⛔ Pass-thru storage is pretty narrow

  • Length: 31′ 7″
  • UVW: 7,460 lbs
  • GVWR: 10,400 lbs
  • CCC: 2,940 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 840 lbs
  • Sleeps: 6
  • Celing Height: 7′

The Winnebago Voyage Series begins with a seven-foot interior ceiling. You’ll find that after 2008, Winnie started with a clean sheet of paper and rebranded themselves with cutting-edge innovations the RV Industry had never seen. The company continues to lead the way by avoiding the status quo whenever possible.

The “RB” in the model code stands for Rear Bathroom. Winnebago did a great job on this floor plan by angling the commode to maximize legroom. The shower is rectangular and has a matching sunroof so tall folks aren’t contained to one spot.

If you need to dry off and put some clothes on, you’ll find ample room in the bathroom space to maneuver without turning your elbows purple.

Taller RVers will breathe a sigh of relief since the travel trailer comes with an optional king-size bed, but the feature that’s the real dazzler is the dream dinette. For decades, dinette tables have been lowered to convert into sleeping spaces.

Winnebago’s dinette tables now adjust up as well. The primary purpose of this feature gives home workers a standing RV work space or meal preparers additional counter space. Yet for those that need the legroom, you’ll now have a table that doesn’t sit in your lap.

Another great feature that Winnebago offers is its interior design. Winnie was one of the first RV manufacturers who realized there are more design concepts than the classic farmhouse look. The Voyage uses a warm contemporary look with its wood patterns.

Our Pros and Cons

✅ 18-year warranty on the 3/8″ walk-on rooftop and membrane

⛔ 90-degree sofa placement to the TV is exacerbated by the slide-out frame

  • Length: 37′ 8″
  • UVW: 8,666 lbs
  • GVWR: 10,500 lbs
  • CCC: 1,834 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 1,154 lbs
  • Sleeps: 10
  • Ceiling Height: 6′ 9″

Adults aren’t the only tall people that families have to worry about. Bio mothers and fathers can be under six feet, yet have growing teenagers that get their height from a grandparent or another genetic relative.

The Forest River Aurora 34BHTS is a bunkhouse travel trailer that comes in two versions. The first has an entertainment center on the door-side and a top twin bunk. The off-door side places a convertible two-seater sofa and a flip-down twin bed. The layout includes the travel trailer with an outdoor kitchen.

If your tall teen doesn’t fit well in a twin, the 34BHTS has a second version replacing the bunks with a second queen-size bed. The wardrobe and dresser take up the needed space for the outdoor kitchen, but your teenager will enjoy the surface space and hookups for a good-sized LED TV and game console.

Both the master and second queen measure 60 x 74, known as a short queen, so finding linens online or at camping stores will be your best option.

Forest River online forums do talk about the interior height of the RV brand. One thread mentions a gentleman who’s 6.4 feet and who never had a problem with his Forest River travel trailer’s interior height.

The 10 cubic foot refrigerator and multiple pantry space should quell your growing teen’s hunger and keep the rest of you fed too.

  • Length: 36.8 Feet
  • Exterior Height: 12.9 Feet
  • Interior Height: 7 Feet
  • Fuel Capacity: 100 Gallons
  • Ceiling Height: 7′

Class Cs make campers for tall people as well. Although it’s known as a Super C, the Dynamax DX3 Series has a B Plus layout. Tall drivers will enjoy the fact that they won’t hit their heads when they get up from the pilot section.

The DX3 has a cabover bunk bed as an optional feature making it similar to its sister motor coach, the Force HD.

The split bathroom allows plenty of legroom for the commode and a nice-sized sunroof in the shower. The dream dinette also gives diners the ability to raise the table to the perfect height. No matter which sofa you choose, the dual living room slide-outs make the front space wide enough for everyone to sit comfortably while you’re entertaining your guests.

The standard king-size bed may have small nightstands, but they’re the right size to plug in your mobile devices and the 32-inch TV remote.

If you prefer the ultimate entertainment package over seating, you can choose the optional televator cabinet with a 50-inch LED TV and faux fireplace instead of the two-seater sofa on the door-side. The sofa behind the driver seat can be changed out for theatre seats too.

Our Pros and Cons

✅ Large chassis foil cushion drives are surprisingly nice for a gasoline engine

⛔ Dinette is narrow and confined, a surprising design choice for such a large class A

  • Length: 34.3 Feet
  • Exterior Height: 12.10 Feet

If you need a Class A motorhome with workstations for two but aren’t ready for the diesel Class A RV lifestyle, you may want to look into the Tiffin Open Road Allegro.

The 32SA is at the top of the campers for tall people food chain: Seven-foot ceilings, a standard king-size bed, and a bathroom with plenty of legroom. What makes this motorhome really stick out are the features beyond the minimum requirements tall people need to live comfortably.

The four-person sofa on the driver’s side is long enough for anyone to stretch out. You and your favorite person can cozy up as you watch your favorite movie on a cold night while the 5,000 BTU fireplace keeps you warm.

During the day, one of you can work on the dinette with the computer center that Tiffin is known for, while the other uses the dashboard RV computer workstation. After a good day’s work, you’ll have plenty of counter space in the kitchen to prepare dinner. On nice nights, you can dine al fresco and still catch your favorite shows on the outside TV with a sound bar.

Are Truck Campers Good For Tall People?

Some truck campers will accommodate tall people, but not generally. There are truck campers that are decently tall on the inside. However, height isn’t the only thing tall people deal with. We also have longer arms, legs, and often enough, wider shoulders. Truck campers tend to have smaller beds, tight spaces, and narrow steps.

While you may not bonk your head on the shower skylight, you may crack your funny bone against the wall, or crack your knee on something hard when trying to squat, maneuver, or climb.

How High Are Airstream Ceilings?

Not all Airstreams are the same, but most are well over 6′. The Bambi, one of the smallest of the Airstream models, has an interior height of 6′ 4″, while the Basecamp (another small Airstream), has an interior height of 6′ 6″.

Unless you’re as tall as 6′ 4″, you shouldn’t have an issue finding an Airstream with enough head height and space to make you feel comfortable.

Final Thoughts About Used Late Model RVs For Tall People

Campers for tall people are only common sense. After all, people come in all heights, so it makes no sense to only accommodate one end of the spectrum. After all, it’s the RV manufacturer’s goal to draw in as many consumers as possible. Naturally, that includes tall people.

While not every RV has a fantastic interior height, headspace is not a rare commodity in the industry. The above list is some of the best options, but you’re sure to find more if you continue the search beyond this page.
