3 Country Singers Who Love the Outdoors

The outdoors is a common theme in country songs—from catching a sunset to lamenting the fish that got away. With hours spent in studios and endless months touring, spending time in Mother Nature can be a source of peace and inspiration. Here are four country singers that love the outdoors, and it shows in their work.

Thomas Rhett

When asked to help create his own Chaco collection, Thomas Rhett solidified his legacy as an outdoor-loving country star. A Chaco enthusiast since his teens, he designed three collections in all with outdoor themes from landscapes of Montana to fishing for trout with proceeds going to causes like Trout Unlimited.

Growing up outdoors, Rhett often says those experiences are carried through his songs. As his popularity grew, Rhett found he had less time to “enjoy the moments in life.” A full tour schedule, producing music, and being a dad meant there wasn’t time for much else. The pandemic changed all that, and Rhett was reminded of life’s simple pleasures, like taking a hike or casting a line.

Now, he makes outdoor time a priority—the best memories being time spent with his kids skiing and fishing. His newest double album features a song called “More Time Fishin,” a look back at Rhett’s fond memories of fishing with his Papaw (his mother’s father), while growing up.

Rhett partnered with the allergy medicine manufacturers of Claritin for the Outsideologist Project to get kids off electronics and get outside for an hour a day, whether it’s building fairy houses in the woods (a favorite pastime of his family) or paddling a river.

Luke Bryan

Growing up in rural Georgia, the outdoors was a way of life for Luke Bryan. Even today, he tends to live a more laid-back lifestyle, creating memories with his boys that remind him of the trips he used to take with his dad.

Bryan’s music often refers to his passion for spending a day in the woods, and often spends his nights on tour tent camping with his crew instead of staying in a tour bus or a luxury hotel.

His farm and house near Nashville, Tennessee features a 20-acre trout pond where he spends a lot of time when not on the road. Passionate about giving back, Bryan has auctioned off days fishing with him in part to raise money for The Brett Boyer Foundation, which works to raise awareness for congenital heart disease (CHD) and Down Syndrome, in honor of his wife’s niece who passed away. The Annual #BrightforBrett Day includes skeet shooting, trout fishing, and defensive shooting—all of which Bryan participates in personally.

Lainey Wilson

Raised on faith, family, and loving the outdoors is how CMT’s 2022 “Breakout Artist of the Year” describes her life. A relative newcomer to the big-league country scene, Wilson hit the road in a run-down camper that she lived out of while trying to make it big in Nashville in 2011.

Before heading to Music City, USA, Wilson and her sister earned money as dove guides. They arranged hunts at their family farm in tiny Baskin, Louisiana. She makes it a point to always remember her roots as a farmer’s daughter who grew up listening to country music while cooking with her mother and plowing the fields with her father.

Wilson has written songs from the heart about her childhood, including riding horses, playing in the dirt, and singing around campfires. She was named the CMA 2022 Female Vocalist of the Year, CMA 2022 New Artist of the Year, and ACM’s 2022 New Female Artist of the Year. She credits her perseverance in never giving up on her Nashville dream to pastimes like deer hunting and horseback riding.

Wilson made her acting debut in season five of Yellowstone, where she was also announced as a brand ambassador for Tractor Supply—the largest rural lifestyle retailer in the United States.
