2024 Northwood Arctic Fox North Fork 25R

A spacious midsized travel trailer loaded with features and amenities.

Northwood Manufacturing has been building travel trailers, fifth-wheels, and pickup campers for 30 years, during which time the Oregon-based company has established itself as a premier RV manufacturer. Among the company’s offerings is the Arctic Fox North Fork trailer line, which debuted in 2019 with seven floor plans ranging in length from 24 to 34 feet.

The standard layout includes a convertible dinette in the slideout and a jackknife sofa against a half wall.

One of the most popular North Fork models is the 27-foot Arctic Fox 25R. This comfortable midship single-slideout design is popular with RVing families. The floor plan incorporates a rear bedroom and front bathroom, and it can sleep six. It also has the option of theater seating instead of a convertible dinette in the living room slide.

That popularity is sure to continue as new features and options in the 2024 model take this travel trailer to an even higher level of comfort and convenience. At least that’s my take after walking through a 2024 North Fork 25R at Bish’s RV in Junction City, Oregon.

DÉCOR CHANGES

Although the exterior of the 2024 25R looks the same as a 2023, stepping inside reveals a number of improvements in both décor and appliances as a result of suggestions from previous and current owners.

The first thing that catches one’s eye is the new Wiley Oak woodgrain color of the cabinetry and doors — and there are a lot of cabinets, drawers, and closets in this trailer. This dark oak finish gives the 25R interior a rich, comfortable feel and blends perfectly with the equally new Cool Iron leatherette coverings on the furniture. In addition, the “North Fork” brand plaque mounted to the living room slideout header is reminiscent of what you’d see at a classy horse ranch.

The 2024 North Fork travel trailers are outfitted in one of three interior décors: Windswept, Moonstone, or Carbon. The latter two are new for 2024. The model I walked through featured cushions, valances, and pillows in the Carbon pattern.

This 25R also had the standard seating arrangement: a convertible dinette in the slideout paired with a jackknife sofa against the mid-height wall that separates the living room from the bedroom.

RVers who don’t need the added sleeping space provided by the convertible dinette and jackknife sofa may want to consider taking advantage of Option #448, which includes 68-inch theater seating in place of the dinette and a mini-dinette in lieu of the little sofa. This option provides a great vantage point from which to watch the 32-inch TV (previous 25Rs had a 19-inch TV) mounted in the cabinet above the kitchen counter.

KITCHEN UPGRADES

Northwood’s interior designers also changed up the kitchen in the North Fork campers. The 2024 models now incorporate a 10-cubic-foot, 12-volt Furrion stainless-steel fridge. In the 25R it’s located opposite the kitchen pantry and three-burner Furrion propane-powered range.

Another change in the kitchen is the addition of a custom anodized- aluminum backsplash that offers a designer look while also being a breeze to maintain. The solid-surface kitchen countertop, floor-to-ceiling pantry, under-counter drawers, lighting, and water system remain the same as in previous years.

The bedroom features a queen-size bed, ample cabinetry, and plug-ins for electronic devices in each nightstand.

BED AND BATH

This model of the North Fork travel trailers incorporates a front bedroom with a NW TruRest queen mattress tucked tightly between the nightstands. A sliding curtain provides privacy between the bedroom and the living area.

Storage space for clothes and other items is handled by a beautiful full-width headboard with a trio of upper cabinets braced by the shirt closets on each side.

The bath offers generous wardrobe storage.

At the opposite end of the 25R is the bathroom. I liked how the skylight in this area is directly above the tub/shower, which features a hide-away retractable shower door. Water and waste should not be an issue on most camping trips, as this unit is outfitted with a 63-gallon fresh-water tank, a 44-gallon gray-water tank, and a 35-gallon black-water tank.

The mirrored medicine cabinet is a little on the shallow side, as is the bathroom sink, positioned between the shower and the toilet. The plus side of this setup is that the bathroom includes a big double-door closet on the street side, with more storage cabinets underneath.

OFF-GRID POWER TO SPARE

To accommodate extended stays when the RV is not connected to the local power grid, Northwood designers now include a roof-mounted SolX 4 400-watt solar charging system with a 40-amp Bluetooth controller as part of the standard package. Should more solar power be needed, the SolX system can be expanded with optional upgrades.

A Cummins-Onan 3.6-kw propane-powered generator is a popular option.

Another optional power source available in all North Fork trailers is the super-quiet, fuel-efficient 3.6-kw Cummins-Onan LP generator ($5,993), which is installed in the RV’s forward street-side compartment. It provides enough output to easily run the RV’s 15,000-Btu air-conditioning unit (a $225 upgrade to the standard 13.5K unit) on the hottest of days when camping off the grid.

BUILT FOR THE LONG HAUL

What you don’t see when walking through the 25R is the R-18 four-season insulation in the roof above the arched ceiling, the R-15 reflective foil insulation in the slideout’s roof, and high-density foam block insulation in the walls of the aluminum framework. This unit also comes with frameless thermal-pane windows and heated holding tanks. All contribute to the trailer’s four-season rating.

Northwood designers also take a lot of pride in how their North Fork travel trailers are built. The framework is constructed using welded thick-wall aluminum tubing that sits atop Northwood’s own robust tandem-axle off-road chassis featuring E-Z Lube axles and shocks on all four wheels. It’s a design that should provide decades of trouble-free travel.

Plenty of options are available to personalize the 25R to fit most family RVer needs. Among them is the new Furrion Vision S single-camera system, which does double duty as a security system with a wide viewing angle, night vision, and a motion detector that incorporates an auto-wake function.

Overall, the 2024 Northwood Arctic Fox North Fork 25R is an upper-tier, robust, stylish, well-designed travel trailer that would suit both couples and small families quite nicely. It’s roomy, comfortable, contains a lot of storage, and is well within the towing capacity of today’s full-size ½-ton pickups.
