South Bend News Channels Report on ‘Valley’ RV Show

Matt Rose being interviewed by WNDU.

South Bend news stations WNDU and WSBT sent crews to the 48th annual Valley RV and Camping Show at the Century Center in downtown South Bend. The show continues through Sunday (Jan. 15).

“Inventory is a little bit. Easier to get now than it was then. The last couple of years it was a little harder to get stuff. We’re seeing the supply chains open up. Things are good now. We’re getting a good flow of stuff in,” Steve Showalter, owner of Showalter RV, told WSBT reporter Lynette Grant.

In 2020 and 2021, during the pandemic, the industry could not build and ship RVs fast enough.

But from 2021 to 2022, there was a 50% drop in sales comparing November 2021-to-November 2022 and a nearly 16% drop for the year.

“The industry is really correcting itself, but it has leveled off a little bit. Sales remains strong. Interest in RV and camping is as strong as ever before,” said Valley RV and Camping Show Director Matt Rose of the Indiana Manufactured Housing Association-Recreation Vehicle Indiana Council (IMHA-RVIC).

“We have over 100 brand-new RVs here at the century center, and they’re all for sale,” Rose told WNDU reporter Samantha Albert.

For many people, this show is their first opportunity to see the latest models of recreational vehicles and campers.

“This show is a great place for folks to come out, either shop for your first RV or your next RV. Or if you’re just curious about RVing, it’s a great opportunity to come out, talk to a lot of different dealers about a lot of different types of RVs, get your questions answered,” Rose said.
