Celebrity chefs serving up food and fun helped raise about $350,000 for the Bashor Children’s Home Thursday evening (Sept. 8) during the Running with Spoons fundraiser, held in the Crystal Ballroom of the Lerner Theatre in downtown Elkhart, Ind.

The RV industry was well represented at the event, which was sponsored by Nuway Construction, Scott and Kim Welch and The Welch Packaging Group, Don and Theresa Gunden, Obeco, Patrick Industries and Genesis Products.

Thirteen teams of local business and community leaders competed by cooking up their favorite dishes for attendees to sample. Attendees voted for their favorite dishes and chefs with donations to Bashor Children’s Home.

“I would say there’s 300-plus people here tonight, which is an incredible turnout,” said Bashor Children’s House board member Kayla Niedbala, who also serves as the RV marketing coordinator at Genesis Products.

All the proceeds from Running with Spoons, including donations given during voting, will go directly to helping support the programs at Bashor Children’s Home and care for survivors of Human Trafficking in northern Indiana.

“I definitely want to thank all of our community sponsors. I think we came really close to exceeding our biggest year in terms of sponsorships,” Niedbala told RVBusiness. “We have so many incredible community organizations that have really helped support Bashor along the way. I also want to highlight all of our wonderful chefs that have taken the time to come out this evening and cook for us, and then everybody in attendance. It takes really a lot of different pieces and parts to get this event moving forward, and I’m just consistently blown away by the support.”

  • Scott and Robyn Radeker
  • Ryan Casey and Ron Mullet
  • Rick Kessler and Sherman Goldenberg
