Outside Van and Volta Power Team Up to Create Class B RVs

Oregon-based Outside Van has announced it is joining forces with Volta Power Systems to build the onboard electrical systems for its new line of Class B RVs. The company has been renovating camper vans for its clients for years but recently announced that it was producing its own standardized line of vehicles too. This partnership ensures that those new models will be equipped with an onboard electrical system designed to support boondocking and camping off-grid.

The first two Outside Van models are called the Approach and Syncline. Both come with a 13,200-watt lithium-ion battery system courtesy of Volta as part of their standard configuration. The system also includes a 3,200-watt inverter, built-in DC conversion, and a secondary alternator to charge the batteries while in transit from one campsite to the next.

“Off-grid energy capability is a core differentiator for the adventure van experience our customers want, Outside Van’s CEO Susan Clemo says in a press release. “They want the ability to stay anywhere and still use air-conditioning overnight, run lights, cook, or even charge something like an eBike. Power is no longer a barrier to adventure.”

The new Outside Van standardized models come with a 48-volt roof-mounted air conditioner to help keep owners comfortable. That unit was specifically selected for its efficiency while powered by the Volta electrical system.

“We love seeing our partners succeed, and it has been great to see Outside Van’s expansion over the past few years,” Volta CTO Jack Johnson says via the same press release. “ We are grateful we can provide them with technology that meets customer expectations, and I am excited to see their continued growth with Approach and Syncline.”

To accommodate the expected demand for the new Class B models, Outside Van is opening a new 130,000-square-foot manufacturing facility near its headquarters in Portland. The Approach and Syncline will be built there and starts shipping later this year.
