Organizers Eagerly Anticipating Detroit RV & Camper Show

Based on reports from other consumer RV shows that have already taken place, officials are eagerly anticipating the 57th Annual Detroit RV & Camping Show, which is Feb. 1-5 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Mich.

Hosted by the Michigan Association of RV and Campgrounds (MARVAC), the five-day show attracted a little over 27,000 people last year.

“We have been watching as shows throughout the country have been well received by the public, most recently being obviously the Florida RV SuperShow in Tampa, but also including a couple of shows in Indiana – Fort Wayne and Indianapolis,” said Show Director Darren Ing of MARVAC. “So, we are encouraged that people are very interested and excited for the upcoming season, and we fully anticipate a good attendance at the show.

Ing was also shared that the event’s display space is sold out, meaning showgoers will see hundreds of RVs showcased by 15 dealers as well as dozens of exhibitors featuring parts, accessories and campground information.

“We will have 15 different RV dealers displaying everything from Class A motorhomes to fifth-wheels to travel trailers to pop-ups, including Airstream this year,” said Ing of MARVAC.

In addition to the RVs on display and the vendor exhibits, another highlight of the show will be the seminars, Ing added, including several hosted by Jim Edelman and Tom Daldin, co-hosts of the “UTR: Under the Radar Michigan” PBS television program. The duo will talk about some of the more popular RVing destinations the Great Lakes State has to offer.

“Hands down it’s our most popular seminar. There’s a lot of great education, but yeah, those guys by far and away bring ‘em in,” Ing said. “But we’ll also be featuring seminars from MORryde and Josh ‘The RV Nerd’ from Bish’s RV, along with the DNR (state Depertment of Natural Resources) who’ll be giving updates regarding Michigan State Parks.

“Plus, we’ll have a brand-new member, Kilowatt Power Systems. They have been getting into providing those systems for RVers. They were in the show in October and they are going to be back again,” Ing added.

Great RVing in the Great Lakes State 

Michigan might fly under the radar when it comes to RVing and camping, but in truth it’s one of the top states by most any measure – including being No. 4 for wholesale RV shipment destinations.

According to the 2022 RVs Move America study conducted on behalf of the RV Industry Association (RVIA), RVing in Michigan contributes a $3 billion impact to the state’s economy. Of that, $786 million comes from RV manufacturers and suppliers, $973 million from RV sales and service, and $1 billion from RV campgrounds and related travel.

The RV industry also supports 1,191 businesses in Michigan, which translates to 21,695 jobs and $1 billion in wages, $327 million in taxes. Also, there were 23,345 RVs shipped to Michigan dealers, a $930 million retail value.

In addition, there are 1,300 campgrounds and nearly 150,000 campsites in the Great Lakes State.
