Kentucky RV Dealers Called to Action on Towable Sales Tax

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Kentucky RV Dealers sent out a letter to members Monday (Jan. 23) morning urging them to act in support of State House Bill 81, designed to fix Kentucky state tax law for towable RVs. Below is the text of the letter.

PRIORITY – PLEASE ACT TODAY – WE NEED YOUR HELP

Dear Kentucky RV Dealers:

Good News! Thanks to the efforts of Kentucky RV Dealers, HB81 has been introduced in the state legislature! The bill would fix the unfair and cumbersome Kentucky sales tax law for towable RVs. The result of this change would have the Kentucky towable RV buyer paying motor vehicle usage tax instead of sales tax and the out-of-state buyer would no longer be subject to 6% KY sales tax or dealer delivery out-of-state.

Our lobbyist, Greg Brotzge, and his team are continually working to raise awareness and gain support for our cause.  They have had discussions with several legislators and Greg has indicated the reaction has been favorable. Most recently, we have worked with the Legislative Research Committee to provide industry insight and Kentucky specific data and statistics for consideration in calculating the corresponding Fiscal Note.

Although progress is being made and the initial feedback has been good, Greg has said the hard work of getting the bill to move through the process is just beginning. This is where each dealer’s participation becomes critical in seeing movement on this bill. Greg and his team believe it is key that each dealer contact their senator and representative to help explain why this is important and express your support of this bill.

Here is a suggested email with the reasons to support the bill and you can use this link to find your lawmakers contact information if you need to. We are hoping each dealer will send the email and follow up with a phone call to ensure the information is being seen and our voices are being heard. As the lobbyists continue their conversations with legislators it would be helpful for them to know who has been contacted and may already be familiar with the bill and who has not.

To provide a further update we are scheduling a live:
