Former Dometic Exec Al Haimbach Passes at Age 72

Alfred J. “Al” Haimbach, 72, of Carmel passed away suddenly on Dec. 18. He spent most of his professional career in the RV Industry, first with Kinder and then 26 years with Dometic from 1990 until his retirement in 2012 as Vice President – Aftermarket. Al was instrumental in planning and implementing Dometic’s FDD (Factory Dealer Direct) strategy which was a game changer at the time.

Al was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on July 14, 1950, to the late Alfred J. and Madlyn E. Haimbach. He grew up in Forked River where he developed a love for the water. Al was a graduate of Tri State College (now Trine University) in Angola, Ind, where he was an active member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. He lived most of his adult life in Elkhart, Ind,

Al is survived by his wife and best friend Sandy. He was the proud father of Chris (Julie) Haimbach and Joanna (Drew) Johnson; loving Poppa to Elle, Cora, and Carson Haimbach and Millie Johnson; brother to Madlyn Darmody.

Taking great pleasure in volunteering, Al coached youth boys and girls soccer teams in Elkhart. Once retired, he volunteered for Meals on Wheels Hamilton County, Indiana Down Syndrome, and City Relief out of Elizabeth, N.J. Most recently, he became involved with The Mobile NapkIN. Al also enjoyed planning trips with family and friends. A trip to their beloved Ireland with family was being planned to celebrate his and Sandy’s upcoming 50th wedding anniversary.

He attended Northview Church, Carmel and was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Elkhart, where he served in various positions including Session.  Anyone who knew Al was aware of his life-long love of the Philadelphia Phillies. An avid golfer, he developed many close relationships through membership at The Bridgewater Club in Carmel, Elcona Country Club in Elkhart, and Estero Country Club in Florida.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.
