Chinook RV Partners with Poulsbo RV for Tacoma RV Show

Chinook RV officials are excited to announce a new partnership with Poulsbo RV in the state of Washington. This a big milestone for Chinook, according to a release, as the Peru, Ind.-based company develops its existing dealer network to represent the motorized products in production.

“It’s no secret that Chinook is a noticeable brand with a lot followers especially in the Northwest market where Chinook was previously produced. It’s our mentality to build a high-quality coach just like Chinook was before! No corners will be cut because our customers demand quality,” Chinook officials stated in the release.

Poulsbo RV will carry all of Chinook’s motorized brands – Summit, Maverick and Bayside – with first delivery just in time for the Tacoma RV show. Chinook Factory Representative Seth Buchheit also will be there on behalf of Poulsbo RV.

Chinook RV has a legendary story, the release continued, as it has manufactured RVs since 1938. Chinook started as a brand-named truck camper by Mair & Sons starting back in 1938, produced in California. Over the next 30 years Mair & Sons relocated to Union Gap, Wash., where they would build small travel trailers, pickup tampers, and chassis-mounted RVs. Mair & Sons later developed into the Chinook Mobi-lodge company in the Mid 60s.

In the 70’s, the gas crisis caused a stir with the current investors, which caused Chinook to go dormant for a few years. It was at this time Gary Lukehart left the Chinook Mobi-lodge company and formed Trail Wagons Inc. in Yakima Wash., to build Class B camper vans. In the 80’s Lukehart purchased the remnants of the original parent company including the important brand name “Chinook RV”. The company produced B+ motorhomes in Yakima and Class B conversions out of a plant in California.

Chinook was renowned at building 17- to 19-foot van conversions. In many ways the designs and quality of workmanship by the Lukeharts predate and inspired many of today’s most notable RV manufacturers.

In 2006 due to another economic downturn, all operations in Yakima were closed. Fortunately, Phil Rizzio noticed the legendary brand being idled and was inspired to reproduce a modern RV that would appeal to the needs of today’s RVers. Chinook has established itself in Peru, Ind., boasting nearly 200,000 square feet of manufacturing facilities on a 30-plus acre compound.

Currently the company produces four unique motorhomes that boast qualities and features unrivaled by others.

“We look forward to a Strong relationship with Poulsbo in the Northwest to fulfill the needs of the Chinook RV enthusiasts,” the release concluded.
