There Are Snakes, and Then There Is This African Rock Python

Have you ever mistook a snake for a giraffe? Well, some people watching a video of a huge African rock python admit they thought they were looking at a giraffe at first, not a snake. This python may not be a giraffe, but it certainly appears to be as long as a giraffe is tall.

A video from Africa shows the absolutely massive rock python climbing a tree, and its body is nearly as long as the tree. You can hear a vehicle idling in the background, as if someone spotted this massive snake and stopped to marvel at it. People watching from the safety of their homes seem scared to leave after seeing this.

“I’m leaving earth,” one person joked in a comment.

The snake is so huge that some people in the video’s comments section don’t think it’s real. It is hard to trust what you see online these days, but African rock pythons really are this big. They’re the largest snakes in Africa, averaging up to 16.5 feet long and weighing up to 121 pounds. It also checks out that this snake would be in a tree, since this species can both climb and swim.
