SolarWindow Technologies Officials Visit Lippert Facilities – RVBusiness – Breaking RV Industry News
ELKHART, Ind – Lippert Components Inc. on Thursday welcomed officials from SolarWindow Technologies Inc. to its Elkhart facilities. The visit, covered by South Bend CBS affiliate WSBT-TV (see video above), included CEO Amit Singh, and Vice President Alexandra Musk – the sister of high-profile U.S. businessman and Trump ally Elon Musk.
The visit comes about three months after a story first reported by RVBusiness.com (See: “SolarWindow, Lippert to Develop Electricity-Generating Glass”). In September, the two companies announced a joint agreement to “pursue the integration of SolarWindow technologies into select Lippert components to produce transparent electricity-generating SolarWindow-Lippert products,” according to information provided by Lippert.
At that time, Jason Lippert, president and CEO of Lippert, stated, “This collaboration with SolarWindow marks an opportunity to introduce innovations like electricity-generating glass into Lippert’s existing recreational vehicle, marine vessel, and specialty building product markets, while further strengthening our commitment to environmental stewardship, which is at the core of everything we do.
“Every day, Lippert manufactures more than 23,000 windows worldwide. Meanwhile, customers across our business have been asking for augmented and true off-grid power. We believe our collaboration with SolarWindow presents the potential for novel energy solutions to meet our customers’ needs through transparent, lightweight, and fully integrated SolarWindow-Lippert Products,” Lippert concluded.
In September, Singh stated, “I look forward to continuing to build on our working relationship with Lippert, Lippert has nearly 70 years of experience in commercializing innovative products globally and is an ideal product collaboration partner for integrating our transparent, ultra-thin SolarWindow coatings to turn otherwise ordinary glass into electricity-generating windows.”
In an inverview posted Thursday by WSBT (see link below,) Musk said, “We are here to meet with Lippert and to explore our partnership together. We got to meet with some of their customers today and we are very very impressed with the everything we’ve seen here. We are excited to see everything we are going to build together in the future.”
As Singh toured the Lippert facility, he explained to WSBT, “Imagine all the surfaces in here coated in electricity generating glass, with electricity generating coatings, transparent, you wouldn’t even know it’s there. And it’s generating autonomously electricity. So, that’s what is, for us, the real the game changer in all of this.”
Tim Widner, vice president of glass and plasitcs for Lippert, told WSBT, “Back in the summer of this year, July or August of this year, we signed a framework agreement to partner together in which Lippert would have the manufacturing rights to build the product. It would be the first line in the country of its kind.”
As the project remains in early stages, no time frame for marketing the new products was available, officials said.
