‘We Can’t Fix Stupid, But We Can Arrest It’: Trail-Cam Thief Accidentally Takes Selfie
The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office recently took to social media in hopes the public could help detectives identify a suspect in a home burglary case in Hendersonville, North Carolina. The thief did his part in outing himself by sending a selfie as he attempted to remove the batteries from a stolen trail cam . . . oops! The Sheriff’s Office didn’t hold back in its social media post sharing the incriminating photo and asking for the public’s help.
“Folks, we can’t fix stupid, but we can arrest it,” wrote the Sheriff’s Office on Facebook and Instagram. “On 11/26/2024, around 4:00 PM, this genius decided to break into a home on Gilliam Mountain Road in the Edneyville Community. His brilliant move? Stealing a cellular trail camera that snapped his picture while he was taking out the batteries. [. . .] Let’s help him achieve his ultimate goal: a mugshot.”
Police later identified the suspect and posted an update to the original post saying they’d done so.
