New Wolf Cubs Filmed in Colorado After Species’ Reintroduction

In December 2023, wildlife officials reintroduced wolves to the state of Colorado per the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission (CPW)’s voter-approved Colorado Wolf Restoration and Management Plan. New footage proves there have now been at least three wolf cubs born in Colorado since the species’ reintroduction.

CPW shared a video of the three cubs playing around a puddle on a dirt path on X. In the caption, CPW wrote: “Seen here: three healthy wolf pups (around 40-50 lbs) and one adult from the Copper Creek pack. We received this video and our wolf biologists have reviewed and confirmed the validity of the video.”

The person who took the video, Mike Usalavage, is a Coloradoan who, like many in the state, have mixed feelings about the reintroduction program.

“Though I’m conflicted on the bigger picture and whose voices matter most and how it will affect so many in the state, including me, it was pretty dang exciting to actually see these wolf pups,” Usalavage said on Instagram. “[They] seem so big for 4mos old. Seeing their mom was also a treat. Loved the playfulness. Loved the ‘baby pool.’ Especially loved the wipeout.”
