Why on Earth Do These Hiking Pants Cost $5,000?

Do you or someone you know wish you could get out on hikes more often than you’re physically able to? The world’s first powered hiking pants could help. They’re designed to help hikers conquer inclines they’d otherwise shy away from. The pants are called MO/GO, they’re designed by Skip and Arc’teryx, and, yep—they cost $5,000. (Or $4,500 for those who pre-order.)

Here’s why they might be worth the splurge, though. These powered pants feature a lightweight battery-powered module that snaps onto each leg of the Arc’teryx Gamma pant that’ll boost your leg power as you walk, absorb impact on your joints, and make you feel 30 pounds lighter.

The device “understands how you’re moving in real-time and automatically adjusts to any terrain and a walking style that feels most natural to you.” It has two modes: more assist and less assist.

The system is four years in the making, but the pants are now available for pre-order. The investment requires a $99 downpayment and total cost of $4,500. The first estimated delivery date is in October 2025, though the company has already sold out on pre-orders through December 2025.
