9-Foot-Long Python Blocks Woman From Entering Her Vehicle (in North Carolina)

“Yes. It really happened,” says the Greensboro Police Department on Facebook about an incident with a snake that wasn’t supposed to be there. Believe it or not, a 9-foot-long Burmese python between 8 and 10 feet long was hanging out beneath a woman’s car in Greensboro, North Carolina. Greensboro Police and animal-control officers removed the snake, but it wasn’t easy.

The woman reportedly came out to her car on Friday and saw the huge python “dangling” from the bottom of it. She couldn’t enter the vehicle, so she called animal control. The professionals wrangled the snake away from the car.

The woman told local news: “It took ‘em a while I guess to untangle the snake from underneath the car [but] they eventually pulled it out.”

Burmese pythons is a large non-venomous snake native to Southeast Asia. You can find them in Florida, too, but they’re not native there; they’re invasive. These massive snakes often grow to be 16 feet long, so, comparatively, this one was small. (Too big to tangle with if it’s hanging around your car, though.)

Officials assume this Burmese python is someone’s pet that got loose.
