SSI: January’s Retail Totals, at 19,664 Units, Mirror Shipments

RV Business

There were 19,664 retail registrations of RVs in January 2023, a 30.5% decrease compared to the 28,297 units in the same period in 2022, according to Statistical Surveys Inc., the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based company that tracks retail and consumer data for the RV industry.

For comparison, the RV Industry Association’s (RVIA) January 2023 survey of manufacturers determined that total RV shipments ended the month with 20,405 units, suggesting the OEM production cadence is in line with retail demand.

United States

Travel Trailers – 12,491 in January 2023 (17,544 in January 2022; -28.8% difference). Market share leaders: THOR Industries Inc. (41.3%), Forest River Inc. (34.6%), Grand Design RV Co. (7.5%).
Fifth-Wheels – 3,292 (5,603; -41.2%). Market share leaders: THOR (44.3%), Forest River (28.9%), Grand Design (17.1%).
Camping Trailers – 261 (358; -27.1%). Market share leaders: Forest River (53.3%), Aliner (14.6%), Purple Line LLC (7.7%) and SylvanSport LLC (7.7%).
Park Models – 111 (216; -48.6%). Market share leaders: Skyline Champion (33.3%), Cavco Industries (27%), Kropf Mfg. Co. Inc. (9%) and Woodland Park (9%).
Class A – 671 (929; -27.8%). Market share leaders: THOR (51.7%), Forest River (18.5%), Newmar Corp. (12.2%).
Class C – 1,266 (1,547; -18.2%). Market share leaders: THOR (53%), Forest River (26.1%), Winnebago Motorized (6.6%).
Class B – 897 (1,074; -16.5%). Market share leaders: THOR (37.7%), Winnebago Motorized (29.2%), REV Recreation Group (7.1%).

Canada

Travel Trailers – 459 (692; -33.7%). Market share leaders: THOR (40.7%), Forest River (31.2%), Grand Design (7.6%).

Park Models – 1 (1; 0%). Market share leaders: Station Rock (100%).
Class A – 16 (14; +14.3%). Market share leaders: THOR (50%), Forest River (18.8%), Winnebago Motorized (12.5%).
Class C – 12 (39; -69.2%). Market share leaders: THOR (58.3%), Forest River (25%), Leisure Travel Vans (8.3%) and Winnebago Motorized (8.3%).
