Winnebago Connect Brings Smart Home Features to the RV

Winnebago has introduced an innovative and powerful new system designed to turn its RVs into smart homes on wheels. Meet Winnebago Connect – the industry’s first technology platform that not only gives owners unprecedented control over lighting, HVAC settings, water systems, and awnings, but it also proactively and automatically manages your RV systems according to your preferences. Best of all, everything can be accessed and monitored using a built-in touchscreen or via the Winnebago app running on a smartphone or tablet.

Winnebago Connect leverages proprietary technology to give owners an experience unlike any other. The system proactively and intelligently monitors and controls a host of onboard features to help make life at the campsite better, safer, and more comfortable. For instance, the system can automatically adjust temperature settings to keep the interior as warm or cool as necessary. It can also retract awnings if inclement weather is detected or turn off battery-draining features when they aren’t needed.

At launch, customers can choose from three Winnebago Connect tiers of service. The most basic of those is the “Essentials” tier which is completely free and grants access to all of the system’s standard features, including:

  • Lighting. Users can program interior light brightness and colors to change throughout the day based on preferences for sleep, relaxation, work, and more.
  •  Climate. Winnebago Connect monitors internal and external conditions as well as the equipment onboard and makes adjustments to HVAC systems to optimize comfort.
  • Energy use. Winnebago Connect can track total energy consumption and shut down select components, such as hair dryers, the coffee maker, or the A/C to prevent overloading or damaging other RV electrical systems. It can also automatically turn off power to energy-draining systems that are not in use, such as tank pad heaters, to preserve boondocking time.
  • Water systems. Users can turn the water pump or water heater on or off at designated times and set the desired water temperature.
  • Awnings. When it gets too windy, Winnebago Connect will automatically retract awnings.
  • Cabin door locks. Users can remotely lock and unlock cabin doors to enhance convenience and ensure security.
  • Real-time alerts. Winnebago Connect can send more than 100 alerts in real-time to help users stay informed about key systems, such as remaining battery life, water tank levels, and solar energy generation. The technology will even alert users when the outside temperature approaches freezing so they can turn on the heat to protect water lines.
  • Pet Minder. Winnebago Connect keeps your pets safe and comfortable in the RV, even when you’re not there. Just adjust the climate settings to your furry friend’s personal preferences, and the system will maintain a consistent temperature inside the vehicle. Should those settings unexpectedly change, you’ll receive an alert notification on your phone.

Upgrading to the Winnebago Connect “Premium” or “Premium + Wi-Fi” service adds enhanced connectivity, allowing users to monitor and control their RV settings from anywhere they have a cellphone connection. It also allows the RV to perform advanced diagnostics and services and share that info with the Winnebago Customer Care Team, who can help troubleshoot remotely. These tiers also activate OTA (over-the-air) software updates for added features and refinements.

Premium service is free for the first year of ownership, after which it costs $15/month. The Premium + Wi-Fi subscription includes 10GB of cellular data for checking emails, browsing the web, and sharing social media posts for $49/month. Users can further upgrade to 100GB of data for streaming, video conferencing, remote work, and other online activities for $119/month. Both tiers can be activated and deactivated on a monthly basis as needed.
