Florida Leading the Way in RV Resort New Builds, Expansions

New RV resorts are popping up across Florida from the Florida Panhandle to the greater Tampa Bay Area to the Florida Keys, according to a release. At least eight new RV resorts are coming online between 2022 and 2024 while many existing resorts are adding more RV sites, boosting Florida’s inventory by at least 3,596 sites.

Zeman Homes just opened The Surf RV Resort (https://thesurfrvresort.com/), a 449-site luxury RV resort in Palmetto, while Sun Outdoors is planning to open its new 136-site Sun Outdoors Islamorada (https://sunrvresorts.com/sun-outdoors-islamorada/) in the Florida keys. New resorts opening this fall include the 95-site Madison Station RV Resort in Madison and Roserush Luxury RV Resort (https://roserushrvresort.com/) will open with 50 premium RV sites in Brooksville, about 50 miles north of Tampa, while .

These are in addition to three other RV resorts than opened last year, including Champions Run RV Resort (https://www.sunlight-resorts.com/resorts/champions-run/), a 387-site RV resort in Ocala; the 115-site Santa Fe Palms RV Resort (https://santafepalmsrvresort.com/) in Gainesville; and the 164-site Southern Springs RV Resort (https://www.southernspringsrvresort.com/) in Ocala.

Meanwhile, at least seven other parks across Florida are adding RV sites.

“Between 2022 and 2024, Florida is adding at least 3,596 new RV sites to our existing inventory. That’s a higher net gain in new RV site development than any other state right now,” said Bobby Cornwell, executive director and CEO of the Florida RV Park and Campground Association. He added that even more new RV resorts and park expansions are being planned by developers in Florida, who are not yet prepared to announce their projects.

Cornwell said the new RV resorts are being added to CampFlorida.com, the travel planning website, so that consumers can keep up to date on the new RV resorts that are opening across the state. Descriptions of Florida’s new and expanding parks are also provided below:

Champions Run RV Resort (https://www.sunlight-resorts.com/resorts/champions-run/) in Ocala: Sunlight Resorts opened this park in 2022 with 387 RV sites. Amenities include a full-service tiki bar, a large swimming pool and hot tub, a full fitness center and pickleball courts.

Madison Station RV Resort in Madison: Southeastern Resort Development broke ground this month on this 95-site park, which is scheduled to open in September.

Roserush Luxury RV Resort (https://roserushrvresort.com/) in Brooksville: Dale G. Seiden of Open Air Properties LLC is developing this park, which he plans to open this fall with 50 premium RV sites and 12 luxury glamping tents that will overlook a small lake and fountain. Nearby activities including golf, hiking, biking, mountain biking, zip-lining and ATVing.

Santa Fe Palms RV Resort (https://santafepalmsrvresort.com/) in Gainesville: This 115-site park opened in 2022. Amenities at this pet-friendly park include a swimming pool, a nature walk, pickleball courts and cornhole. High-speed WiFi is also available throughout the park.

Southern Springs RV Resort (https://www.southernspringsrvresort.com/) in Ocala: This park, developed by the late Alan Wallace, opened in 2022 with 164 sites.

Sun Outdoors Southern Leisure RV Resort (https://www.sunoutdoors.com/florida/southern-leisure-rv-resort) in Chiefland: This new 55-and-over park had its first full year of operation in 2022. A 7,000 square-foot clubhouse, an outdoor kitchen, and an Olympic-size swimming pool and spa are among the resort’s amenities along with bocce ball, pickleball and shuffleboard courts, and a sewing and quilting studio.

Sun Outdoors Islamorada (https://sunrvresorts.com/sun-outdoors-islamorada/) in Islamorada: This 136-site park is expected to open in the spring. It will feature 82 RV sites and 54 manufactured home sites. Amenities will include a clubhouse with billiards and a fitness room, swimming pool, a saltwater pool, a manmade beach, fire pit lounges and approximately 47 boat slips.

The Surf RV Resort in Palmetto: This luxury RV resort, developed by Zeman Homes, opened Dec. 1 with 449 sites. Amenities include a resort-style swimming pool and tiki bar; a clubhouse and fitness center, pickleball courts and dog parks. Expanding RV Resorts in Florida

Breezy Oaks RV Park (https://breezyoaksrvpark.com) in Bushnell: All 217 sites in this park have been hard wired with high-speed Internet service. Park owner Mike Wood is also planning to expand park with another 181 sites available during the winter of 2023-2024.

Creekside RV Resort (https://creeksidervresort.com/) in Punta Gorda: This park plans to begin construction later this year on its third phase, which will include approximately 100 RV sites that should be available sometime in 2024.

Keystone Heights RV Resort (https://www.keystoneheightsrv.com/) in Keystone Heights: This park is adding 292 sites through its third expansion, which is expected to be completed in late February or early March, boosting the park to 705 sites, according to Ken Lloyd, the park’s general manager. Phase 3 will have much larger pads than any other phase in the resort and will include a second 2,700 square foot swimming pool, additional laundry and bathhouses, and more amenities to follow.

The Glades Resort (https://www.thegladesresort.com/) in Moore Haven: Ninety-seven sites are being added to this central Florida park. Amenities include its own championship 9 hole golf course, an onsite restaurant and its own freshwater marina along the Caloosahatchee River just 14 miles west of Lake Okeechobee, 11 miles west of the Moore Haven lock and 4.5 miles east of the Ortona lock.

Terra Ceia RV Resort in Palmetto: This Encore/Thousand Trails park is currently working expanding this resort with 190 new full hookup, 50 amp RV sites. The project also features new amenities, including a clubhouse, swimming pool, bathhouse and pickleball courts. Completion is slated in the first half of 2023.

Thousand Trails Orlando RV Resort in Clermont: This Thousand Trails park added 165 new RV sites to this resort in 2020. Phase two was completed in 2022 with another 90 new full hookup, 50 amp RV sites in 2022. Also completed in the plans were new bathhouses and amenity upgrades.

Torrey Trails RV & Golf Resort (https://www.torreytrailsrv.com/) in Bowling Green: The first 158 RV sites at this luxury resort were completed in 2020. Another 210 RV sites were added in 2022. “We’re in the process of designing phase 3 and 4, which will add an additional 361 sites for a total of 729,” said Amir Harpaz, a co-owner and developer of the resort,  adding that the additional sites will “probably” be added in 2024. The scenic park was built on the site of an existing golf course, which features mature oak trees. Amenities include a 9 hole golf course; a 65,000-gallon swimming pool; a state-of-the-art fitness center with indoor and outdoor sections; tennis, shuffleboard and pickleball courts; a dog park and doggie splash pool.

Sunshine Travel RV Resort in Vero Beach: This Encore/Thousand Trails park is close to completing 24 new full hookup, 50 amp RV sites this year. Sunshine Travel also has a new pickleball court.

Travelers Campground (https://www.travelerscampground.com/) in Alachua: Park owner Mike Wood plans to expand this 158-site park with another 50 to 200 sites. All 158 sites have been hard wired with high-speed Internet service.

Wildwood RV Village in Wildwood: This park added 159 new RV sites in 2022, all of which have been hired wired with high speed Internet service. The park currently has 504 sites.
