WIXOM, Mich. – Did you know that over 14 million people plan to travel or stay in an RV for the upcoming total solar eclipse, asks a press release forj General RV? According to a recent study by Cairn Consulting, they will be joining millions of people planning to vacation during this rare astronomical event.

While there are plenty of eclipse-themed events happening along the 115-mile-long path of totality, General RV has tips for RVers to avoid the crowds and host their own watch party:

  • Service your RV – Before embarking on your trip, make sure your RV is ready for adventure. Ensure maintenance is up to date and all systems are operational.
  • Shop Early – Grocery stores expect to have massive lines and may face shortages during the long weekend. Shop before you arrive at your destination to ensure you have your essentials.
  • Prepare for Traffic – AAA is warning travelers to prepare for heavier-than-normal traffic before and after the eclipse. Make sure you have a full tank of gas before leaving. Have a paper map backup, as cell towers may be blocked by the number of people using them.
  • Cook at Home – Restaurants along the path of totality expect a high volume of customers, so avoid long waits by using your RV kitchen to prepare meals.
  • Practice Solar Eclipse Safety – Remember to bring proper viewing glasses and specialized solar filters to take pictures of the eclipse. NASA has great tips for staying safe during the rare event.
