On Dec. 31, Greeneway RV President Mick Ferkey will officially retire from the dealership he and his wife, Lora, purchased 35 years ago.

Located in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., Greeneway RV has consistently been named an RVBusiness Top 50 Dealer award winner. In 2022, he was singled out as the recipient of the Gaylord Maxwell Innovation Award for creative business strategies. The dealership carries Keystone, Jayco, Forest River and Grand Design towables.

Actually, saying Ferkey is retiring might be a poor choice of words. While he may not be involved in the day-to-day activities of Greeneway RV – leaving those responsibilities up to his son Matt, who is assuming the position of president – Ferkey intends to stay connected to the industry and his Wisconsin community.

For many in the industry – dealers and OEMs alike – Ferkey is a well-known personality. In addition to having earned many Top 50 awards, Ferkey has been actively involved in the RV Dealers Association (RVDA), holding numerous offices. Among these includes chairman of RVDA’s Society of Certified RV Professionals, a group he helped found. Ferkey was also a 2021 recipient of the dealer association’s James B Summer Award, RVDA’s highest honor.

Ferkey is also a board member of the RV/MH Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Hall this spring. He also founded and serves as chairman of the Wisconsin State Dealers Association.

Professionally, he will continue in his roles with The Society of Certified RV Professionals, the RV Hall of Fame, and the Wisconsin State Dealers Association.

Always active and a self-professed people person, he plans more involvement with local organizations in Wisconsin Rapids, a city of about 20,000 located 114 miles west of Green Bay.

Among Ferkey’s activities, he is reaching out to bring entertainment to nursing homes and working with schools to get children involved in community projects to earn credit. Additionally, he supports the Neighborhood Table, a nonprofit, charitable organization mostly staffed by volunteers who provide free meals to needy people.

When asked about his busy “retirement” schedule, Ferkey responded: “I’m used to that, and, you know, you can’t just pull the socket and not do anything. I enjoy being very involved. You always get a bit more out of life than you put into it. It just makes me feel good inside to help people.”
