TAMPA, Fla. – Amid chilly – for Florida – temperatures and clear skies, a sizable crowd turned out for the opening day of the Florida RV SuperShow at the Florida State Fairgrounds on I-4 east of Tampa.

Organized and sponsored by the Florida RV Trade Association (FRVTA), the event – featuring 400 supplier booths, 30 dealers, more than 100 displays and 1,400 RVs of all shapes and sizes – attracted 18,111 consumers.

FRVTA Executive Directory Dave Kelley said that number was down a bit from a first-day attendance last year of 19,345. He noted, however, that weather was a definite factor as temps in the 50s deterred some showgoers.

He also explained that this year, the senior discount – formerly only available on opening day – was spread out over three days, so he expects today’s and Friday’s attendance numbers to be postively affected by the change.

Those exhibiting at the show – campground operators, RV suppliers and RV manufacturers – almost unanimously reported good traffic at their displays with one OEM sharing that his had been “writing some deals.”

The show continues though Sunday. There is a 40% chance of rain on Friday, but today, Saturday and Sunday are expected to be clear.
