As the RV industry continues to grow, the demand for RV technicians has also markedly increased. To keep up with industry growth, the RV Technical Institute is constantly looking for ways to recruit and train the next generation of RV technicians, according to a News & Insights report by the RV Industry Association (RVIA).

One ways the Institute’s team is achieving this is through attending American School Counselor Association conferences across the country, spreading the message about the need for service technicians to school counselors. Many of the counselors, especially the ones working with high school students, are learning about the RV technician career path for the first time.

“These American School Counselor Association conferences are a fantastic opportunity for us to spread the word about the RV technician career path,” says Tracy Anglemeyer, RVTI director of recruitment. “Many of the high school counselors are learning about this for the first time. Partnering with K-12 schools across the country helps us expand the reach of our Authorized Learning Partners and puts us on high schools’ radar. With such a large demand for RV technicians, attending events like these helps us continue to fill in the skilled trades gap.”

Most recently, RVTI exhibited at the Oklahoma School Counselor Association conference in Norman, Okla. Approximately 350-400 K-12 school counseling professionals attended the event. Many who stopped by the Institute’s booth expressed that they had students who were uncertain about their next steps after high school or had an interest in the skilled trades.

At some of the school counselor conferences RVTI attended this year, they were supported by their Authorized Learning Partners, a program that helps deliver the Institute’s standardized, best-in-class training at the local or regional level. This includes the Austin, Texas, conference where Learning Partner RV Retailer supported the Institute’s efforts to inform high school counselors of the opportunities that the RV industry has to offer students who are interested in an alternative career path. Future events that the Institute plans to attend with Learning Partners this year include a conference in Kalamazoo, Mich., where they will be joined by General RV, and one in Concord, N.C., where they will once again be partnering with RV Retailer.

At each school counselor event they attend, the Institute’s staff discusses with school counselors implementing RVTI’s  training program in public schools, which would allow high school students across the country to graduate with Level 1 and Level 2 certifications.
