Airstream Introduces Affordable Rangeline Class B Camper Vans
Last week, Airstream announced that it is expanding its Class B camper van line-up with the addition of an all-new model dubbed the Rangeline. The RV utilizes the Ram ProMaster chassis—a first for the company—and looks to lure in new customers with an attractive starting price. But the new model doesn’t skimp on the features, offering plenty of excellent amenities that should help make it a hit with the #vanlife crowd.
The 21-foot-long Rangeline comes with a Chrysler 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 gas engine that produces 276 horsepower. The motor pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission and a front-wheel drive system that should prove more than capable, even in inclement weather.
The standard configuration for the camper van comes with a sizeable two-person bed lofted above a spacious cargo area. If you want to bring guests, Airstream offers an optional pop-up rooftop tent that expands the Rangeline’s sleeping capacity to four. Other interior amenities include a modular dinette area that comes with a stowable table and a wet bath with a sink, shower, and toilet.
A built-in electrical system—powered by a 270Ah lithium battery and a 2,000-watt inverter—helps keep your devices charged and running, even while traveling off the grid. It also provides electricity for a two-burner stove and mini-refrigerator. Additionally, the Rangeline’s gas engine keeps the hydronic heating and hot water systems running, while a 2.8 kW generator will do the same for the van’s air conditioner when not connected to shore power.
“We put together a great team that did a lot of market research about what this buyer might want that is different from our Interstate customer, and we developed the Rangeline,” Airstream CEO Bob Wheeler said in a press release. “Type B motorhome segment, the diesel market, and other variants… are up 20% year-to-date. The gasoline-powered Type B motorhomes are up 35% year-to-date, so this is a very hot segment,” he adds.
Airstream’s new entry into that hot market segment seems poised to make an impact. The company has priced the Rangeline starting at $131,882, which is well below the $200,000 entry-level price of the company’s Mercedes Sprinter-based Interstate line. Adding the pop-up tent to the Rangeline increases the price by $11,694, although even with that module installed, the van is much more approachable to the average buyer than its more upscale sibling.
