104-Year-Old Skydiver Dies Days After Potentially Setting a World Record

Multiple media outlets are reporting that Dorothy Hoffner has passed away just days after potentially setting a world record.

The 104-year-old woman made a tandem skydiving jump outside Chicago on October 1, potentially breaking the previous record held by a 103-year-old woman from Sweden. 

The Guinness World Record organization has yet to certify Hoffner as the new record holder but could still do so posthumously. 

Skydive Chicago and the United States Parachute Association released a statement saying:

“We are deeply saddened by Dorothy’s passing and feel honored to have been a part of making her world-record skydive a reality. Skydiving is an activity that many of us safely tuck away in our bucket lists. But Dorothy reminds us that it’s never too late to take the thrill of a lifetime. We are forever grateful that skydiving was a part of her exciting, well-lived life.”

Hoffner has gone skydiving before. The first time she jumped out of a plane she was 100 years old.

Those who knew Hoffner say she died peacefully in her sleep.
