OKLAHOMA CITY – A $2 billion entertainment destination expected to rival the world’s top resorts and draw visitors from around the world is coming to northeast Oklahoma, officials announced Wednesday, according to reporting by Kathryn McNutt in The Journal Record.

American Heartland Theme Park and Resort will be built on 1,000 acres in Craig County just west of Grand Lake on Route 66.

The adjacent 320-acre Three Ponies RV Park and Campground, designed by Oklahoma architects ADG Blatt, will be the largest campground in the central U.S. with 750 RV spaces and 300 cabins plus amenities.

“Our vision is to do something mid-American. What better place than Oklahoma?” said American Heartland CEO Larry Wilhite, who was born and raised in the Oklahoma City metro area. “At the crossroads of the heartland, Oklahoma is an attractive location for a family entertainment destination.”

This will be the first theme park for developer American Heartland, an affiliate of Mansion Entertainment Group LLC, Branson’s leading performing arts, animation and studio brand, Wilhite said. Mansion currently has a movie project underway in the state, he added.

The development will feature a 125-acre theme park – with a variety of entertaining rides, live shows, family attractions, waterways and restaurant-quality food and beverages – and a top-tier 300-room hotel and modern indoor water park, according to a news release.

The completed development will employ an estimated 4,350 people, Wilhite said.

That’s on top of the labor that construction will require. “With the scope of this, it’s going to bring different trades into the area,” Wilhite said.

Vinita Mayor Josh Lee said the economic impact to build and staff the facilities will be tremendous.

“Our city population is the same size as the number of workers they need,” Lee said. “I don’t think we can even guess the impact this will have on all of northeast Oklahoma and beyond.”
