Calm Safari Guide Faces Rhino, Urges Guests to ‘Stay Still’

Safari guests got a thrill when a rhino thought about charging at them but changed its mind when an impressively calm safari guide stood his ground. A video shows how the guide handled both the rhino and the guests in the heat of the moment. It seems like this guide knew exactly what to do, and thank goodness he did.
In the video, the safari party appears to be walking through the bush; there is no vehicle in sight. They have come across two rhinoceroses a short distance away from them on the path when the video begins.

“Stand still,” the guide quietly urges the guests. He says this repeatedly as he holds his hand out to them in a “stop” motion. He positions himself between the animals and the guests as he begins to address the situation.
“Hey! Hey!” the guide says firmly but calmly as the rhino bluff charges them. He doesn’t even flinch. The first rhino turns around, but the second is still curiously approaching. “Hello, mama,” he says.
Rhinos apparently have poor eyesight, so they often charge when they feel threatened. Thankfully, this guide knew the protocol, and it worked like a charm.
