If you’re looking for a place to cool off as the temperatures rise, you may be itching to head to a lake. And not just any lake, but the largest natural lake west of the Mississippi: Montana’s Flathead Lake. This massive body of water is surrounded by fantastic campgrounds, but the one that stands above the rest is Rocky Mountain “Hi” RV Park & Campground.

This park has one of the highest ratings in the area, and it attracts plenty of visitors every year. When you camp here, you’ll have full reign of a sprawling forested campground. It’s a beautiful rustic setting, but it also comes with its fair share of comforts and perks.

Of course, those who camp near Flathead Lake have no shortage of options. So read on to learn more about this RV park and why it should be high on your list of contenders!

Overview

Rocky Mountain “Hi” RV Park & Campground is located in Kalispell, on the northern edge of Flathead Lake, nestled between the Whitefish River and the Flathead River. Just follow the water downstream and you’ll find yourself at the lake in no time.

You’re also right on the doorstep of the beautiful Glacier National Park. If you head northeast for just a few miles, you’ll be there! This park is home to forests, mountains, and rivers, all of which are overflowing with life. It’s certainly worth a visit while you’re in the area.

But we’ll cover more activities later on! For now, let’s get back to the campground itself.

Rocky Mountain “Hi” RV Park & Campground is fairly large, with a total of 121 campsites. Full hookups are available at many sites as well. But bear in mind that the sites that are designed for RVs 20 feet or shorter may only have partial hookups. So if you have a smaller rig, be sure to plan ahead!

Tall pine trees surround the park, offering shade to most of the sites. Some spots are more exposed, but that can actually be a good thing in Northern Montana! A little extra warmth from the sun goes a long way. Either way, you should be able to find a spot that matches your preferences.

This RV park is open all year long, and there are discounted rates from October through March. It gets quite chilly up here during the winter though, so it’s not for the faint of heart! But during the peak camping season, you can expect the following nightly rates:

Full RV Hookup Site: $78 per night
Partial RV Hookup Site: $47 per night
Tent Site: $36 per night

Rental cabins are also available and they range from $120–$320 per night depending on the model you choose. These prices are quite reasonable, especially once you consider the prime location.

Now that we’ve covered the basics, let’s look at what this campground offers. Although it may not be a luxury alpine resort, it still has plenty of amenities to keep guests comfortable and happy.

For starters, every visitor will enjoy access to restrooms and shower facilities. An on-site laundromat is also provided for your convenience. These facilities are fairly modern, so you don’t need to worry about dealing with a vault toilet or an ancient washing machine here!

There’s also a camp store where you can stock up on essentials like firewood, ice, and basic grocery items. If you’re running short on cash, you can visit the ATM in here as well.

Rocky Mountain “Hi” RV Park is also quite pet-friendly! Your four-legged friends will certainly enjoy the fresh air and easy water access/ But if they still need to get their energy out, you can take them to the on-site dog park. This is a fenced area with plenty of space for them to run and play.

Each RV campsite comes with a picnic table, but there’s also a large pavilion at the campground — perfect for cooking outdoors and hosting gatherings that are too big for your RV. Volleyball nets are also in this area if you need to work up an appetite.

And right next to the pavilion is a large playground. It has all the classics: swings, slides, and even a merry-go-round. But it also comes with several play structures that are shaped like an old west town. It’s the perfect backdrop for anybody who wants to play cowboys and bank robbers!

All of the buildings on the premises have a rustic, log-cabin aesthetic. It fits with in with the pine forest, giving that good old fashioned camping feeling!

Nearby Activities/Attractions

Although there are no large cities around The Rocky Mountain “Hi” RV Park, there is still plenty to do!

As we mentioned previously, two of the major appeals of this area are Flathead Lake and Glacier National Park. When you stay at this campground, you’ll be in the perfect midpoint to visit both.

Flathead Lake spans more than 125,000 acres so there’s no shortage of space. Visitors can enjoy boating, watersports, swimming, kayaking, and canoeing on the water. The surrounding area is also gorgeous and well-suited for long hikes and bike rides.

Glacier National Park takes things up a notch! It has plenty of rivers and lakes of its own, plus several tours that can be enjoyed via car, bike, or on foot. You’ll have the opportunity to see all kinds of wildlife so be sure to keep your eyes open and your camera ready.

If you’re getting tired from all the outdoor adventuring, you can also head into the nearby towns of Kalispell and Whitefish. This is a small community, but it still has a few interesting things to offer. For instance, you could tour the lovely Conrad Mansion or take a pottery class at Art Escape Pottery Studio.
